Alaska boasts some of the most pristine and unspoiled wilderness on Earth, making it a haven for big game hunters. An Alaska trophy moose hunt is at or near the top of any hunter’s Bucket List, and to maximize your chances of success, it’s essential to choose the right outfitter, time and place. The best time for a trophy moose hunt is typically during the rut, which occurs from late September to early October. The moose are more active during this period, increasing your chances of a success. Few things compare to a big Alaskan moose walking (or charging) out in front of you. It’s an experience you won’t forget!
Our favorite fully guided Alaska trophy moose hunt takes place in Western Alaska. In support of our moose hunts, the outfitter flies moose surveys for Alaska Fish and Game in the off season. By the time moose season rolls around he has some target bulls picked out. This gives our clients a distinct advantage for good success when they show up.
The chances that you’ll take a nice bull on an Alaska trophy moose hunt are high, and the chance of at least seeing a true monster is fairly good.
Spots are very limited, so contact us for availability.
AN ALASKA TROPHY MOOSE HUNT IS OFTEN A COMBO HUNT
You also have the option to turn your moose hunt into a full-blown Alaskan safari. You can add multiple species including caribou, brown bear, mountain goat, grizzly bear, black bear, and wolves, and we highly recommend having the extra tags in your pocket! These species are at the top of most hunters lists anyway, so why not get it all done in one place, with one outfitter, in one trip? A combo hunt tends to be WAY more affordable than booking individual hunts for each species. *If you choose to add additional species we recommend a 12-day or 14 day hunt.
CARIBOU
Many of our Alaska trophy moose hunt outfitters hunt in areas where you can add a caribou for a trophy fee. Some of our outfitters take several caribou bulls a year that meet B&C minimums! Their success rate for caribou is amazing.
BROWN BEAR
A few of our moose hunting areas offer exceptional brown bear hunting. A moose/brown bear combo is just about as good as it gets.
GRIZZLY BEAR
It is extremely common for our hunters to kill good grizzlies on a combo moose hunt. Our outfitters continually take bears that make the SCI and B&C record books every year! As part of an Alaska trophy moose hunt, the opportunity to combo with a grizzly, just adds to the sheer awesomeness of your hunt.
BLACK BEAR
You may as well add a gorgeous Alaskan black bear to the list too! In most GMU’s you will see quality bears that will square over six feet.
MOUNTAIN GOAT
While not as common as some of the other species, in some areas it’s possible to hunt mountain goats and moose on the same trip.
WOLVES
Whenever you are hunting in Alaska, ALWAYS have a wolf tag in your pocket! Trust us, nothing is more frustrating to get an opportunity at a hard-to-hunt species like a wolf and not be able to do anything about it. Wolf tags are cheap…buy one! If an Alaska trophy moose hunt trips your trigger, be sure to let us know so we can get you in the books.
HUNT MOOSE WITH YOUR BOW
If you’re a bowhunter, you want hunt with an outfitter who’s also a bowhunter.
Most outfitters say they are bowhunter-friendly, but we work with one who truly loves bowhunting. He has successfully our archery clients to trophy animals, including brown bears all across Alaska. You can’t go wrong booking with him if you want to hunt Alaska moose with your bow.
TYPICAL HUNTING ITINERARY ON AN ALASKA TROPHY MOOSE HUNT
On most Alaska hunts, you will rise early and typically glass from camp, eat a hot breakfast, and then hike to a high spot to glass all day or until you find a good stalkable animal. It will be stalking and/or calling from there. Hunters will also be doing a great deal of moose calling with their guide.
As with any fair chase spot and stalk hunt, the better physical shape a hunter is the more enjoyable this type of hunt will be. No quality spot and stalk country is level, so hunter needs to be able to climb decent sized hills. That said, grizzly, moose, caribou and black bear hunts are not real strenuous for a hunter in reasonable physical shape.

Clint Stephenson –
My guide was amazing, but he could have been better at taking pictures (I know that I’m starting to get very picky).
Blake Randig –
My moose hunt was a blast from the word go. Great outfitter, from the pilots to the guys working at the hanger. Couldn’t have asked for a better hunt.
Barry Cook –
On my 10 day Alaska moose hunt I chose to use a bow and arrow, which made the hunt more challenging. I wasn’t able to pull off a moose, but did manage to get a 7ft grizzly bear at 32 yds.
We saw a ton of moose and made several attempts to get one. Just always came up short. That’s hunting though. The guides and outfitter were very accommodating and offered longer time for me to get a moose, but had to leave for work reasons.
