Afghanistan, with its rugged Hindu Kush mountains, vast deserts, and historic river valleys, offers unique but highly challenging opportunities for adventure travel, wingshooting, fishing, and big game hunting, though activities are limited by ongoing security concerns and conservation issues.

Adventure travel includes trekking the Wakhan Corridor to spot Marco Polo sheep, exploring Bamiyan’s ancient Buddhist sites, or camel-back journeys through the Registan Desert, best attempted with expert guides due to regional instability.
Wingshooting is minimal, targeting migratory waterfowl like ducks or chukar partridge in the Amu Darya wetlands, with informal hunts from September to November, often requiring local permissions.
Fishing focuses on the Helmand and Kabul Rivers for mahseer and snow trout, viable from May to October, though infrastructure is sparse.
Big game hunting, once elite, is heavily restricted; historic hunts for bezoar ibex (pasang) and markhor in the northeast used Afghan hounds, but current conservation efforts limit legal hunting, with rare ibex permits available August-November.

What an amazing experience!

The lodge was out of this world! Our rooms, the delicious food, the incredible wildlife and the scenery were amazing. Our photo safari guide was truly exceptional and had us on animals almost constantly. We saw over 30 different species and had some incredible up close experiences. Africa is amazing!
