On a float hunt the river is the vehicle. You put in at the top, hunt your way down over a
week or two, and get picked up at the bottom. Camp moves every day or two, and the raft
carries what your back otherwise would.
That last part is the real argument for it. A bull moose is several hundred pounds of meat
in the wrong place, and a raft turns the worst pack-out in hunting into a manageable one. It
also puts you into country with no airstrip and no trail, hunting animals that see very few
people.
The constraint is that the river decides. Water levels, weather and the take-out date set
your schedule, and you hunt the country the river gives you. Dry bags, honest rain gear and a
tolerance for being wet are not optional.
