Mountain Lion Hunts

We only work with the best houndsman.

Mountain lion hunting is a game of covering country until you find a track, then you try to keep up with the hounds. If you’ve never hunted behind hounds, you should try it at least once in your hunting career. The hunting guides and outfitters that we represent will all work hard for you on your hunt and run well trained hounds.

Mountain lion hunting stands as one of the most exhilarating challenges for big game hunters. These elusive, yet very common predators, also known as cougars or pumas, inhabit some of the most rugged terrain across North America. For those seeking an adrenaline-pumping adventure, mountain lion hunting offers an unforgettable experience amidst breathtaking landscapes. Mountain lion hunting requires a unique approach compared to other big game pursuits. The most common methods include:

  1. Hunting with Dogs: Specially trained hounds track the scent of a mountain lion, often leading hunters deep into challenging terrain. This method is highly effective and allows for a selective harvest.
  2. Spot-and-Stalk: In regions where big game animals congregate during winter, glassing can be fairly productive. This technique demands keen observation and stamina, and is not nearly as effective as hound hunting.
  3. Predator Calling: Hunters use predator calls to mimic the sounds of prey, luring mountain lions into range. While less common, this method can be thrilling.

Where to Hunt Mountain Lions

Good cougar hunting can be found across the western United States, Canada, and parts of Central and South America. States like Colorado, Montana, Idaho, and Arizona are renowned for their robust populations and well-regulated hunting seasons. Guided hunts often take place in remote, mountainous regions, offering the added reward of spectacular scenery.

What to Expect

Mountain lion hunting is physically demanding, often involving steep climbs, rugged trails, and long hours of tracking. Hunters should be prepared for variable weather conditions, from freezing snow to harsh sun. Success depends on the hunter’s physical fitness, patience, and the skill of the guide or hounds involved.

Before you book

The hunt you book needs to be in an area and/or with an outfitter that would satisfy your trophy quality expectations, while also fitting your physical condition level and your budget. That's what our service is all about.

NOTE: Weather can be a HUGE factor for success with mountain lion hunting, so be sure to ask us about on-call hunts.

Our team of professional consultants are ready to help you research, book and plan an amazing trip with one of our amazing outfitter partners around the world.

I didn't think an experience like this was possible.

This trip, was, for me at least not just a trip, for me it was a real adventure, a real experience. I love the wilderness and this trip afforded me the opportunity to connect with the Alaskan wilderness in ways very few people do. It was an experience I will never forgot in a place I can’t wait to get back to.

The outfitter handled everything perfectly.

We were thankful that Outdoors International hooked us up with a great outfitter because they were able to find us an acceptable alternate on short notice. Overall the two year process to get this float in was seamless and worry free. Just like it should be.

Thank you, Stan Masneri
