Nilgai hunting in Texas has recently become popular, due to their difficulty to hunt and amazing table fare. Originally from India and Pakistan, they were introduced to South Texas in the 1920s, by the King Ranch, and now they number over 35,000.
They are big, strange looking animals. “Blue bulls” can weigh nearly 700 pounds with small six to ten inch horns. Their headgear is under impressive, but meat more than makes up for it. They’re wary, and TOUGH!…in fact, Winchester Arms recently ranked them as the second toughest game animal, right behind the famed cape buffalo.
