Originally from India, blackbuck antelope were introduced to Molokai, Hawaii in the 1970’s and now run free range on the western half of the island. Blackbuck hunting in Hawaii takes place on nearly 20,000 acres of private land. Strangely, blackbuck are diurnal, therefore most active during the heat of the day, so hunting them over water holes after your morning hunt for axis deer is a great way to go.

You’re probably visiting Molokai mainly for axis deer hunting, but adding a blackbuck to your hunt is highly recommended. Bucks are considered extremely territorial. They’ll defend territories as large as thirty acres. However, despite their aggressiveness, these antelope can be fairly difficult to stalk. Blackbucks have keen eyesight and incredible hearing. What’s more, they more often than not enjoy feeding in open areas. For this reason, hunters are more likely to use a ground blind for optimal hunting success.

These small, 80-100 pound antelope are incredibly athletic. An adult blackbuck antelope to run at speeds of up to 50 miles per hour, so getting off a shot once they start moving is going to be a challenge for any hunter. In addition they can jump like you can’t believe, easily clearing average sized fences or even brush piles.
