This is one of the best mouflon sheep hunts in the world, hands down. A Croatia mouflon sheep hunt is a real, free range mountain sheep hunt, not a Texas high fence hunt for released rams. You will work for your trophy by hiking through rugged sub-Mediterranean scrub brush along the Dalmatian coast of the Adriatic sea. The coastal mountains of Croatia turn out some outstanding mouflon rams, as well as Balkan chamois and fallow deer. Our hunters also enjoy hunting wild Dalmatian Ovan, or wild sheep with this great outfitter.
Free Range Croatia Mouflon Sheep Hunt
At approximately c.6000 BC, a feral population of mouflons were introduced to these Mediterranean Islands of Corsica and Sardinia. The descendents of these sheep make up the population of European Mouflon that can be hunted today. Mouflon sheep hunting in Croatia has gained popularity recently among hunters. The hunting grounds in Croatia offer a good chance of achieving a trophy in the desired medal category. The rugged terrain, characterized by dense macchia vegetation and hidden pastures, provides an ideal habitat for mouflon.
Where You’ll be Hunting
Most of our hunts take place on the Island of Plavnick, however a Croatia mouflon sheep hunt can take place on several other islands, and coastal hunting areas, as well as a few interior regions of the country. It is required that all harvested animals be measured and weighed to obtain more information on specific populations.
Hunting Method
In the coastal Mediterranean regions, hunting takes place throughout the day, with expert guides leading the active search for mouflon. During the summer hunt from May to September, when the days are hot, hunting is typically conducted in the early morning and early evening. On a Croatia mouflon sheep hunt, you can expect some altitudes of up to 6,000 feet. However, good road access to the hunting areas makes this hunt doable for hunters of any age.
To increase the chances of a successful hunt, a second expert guide may be assigned to search for other moufflon groups that can be targeted. Moufflon have excellent vision and hearing, making it challenging to approach them at close distances in rocky terrain. As a result, shots are usually taken from distances ranging between 150 to 300 yards. It’s important to note that mouflon are hardy animals, and shots must be placed precisely in vital areas. In some cases, a follow-up shot may be necessary if the game is wounded.
Hunting Season
The optimal time for mouflon hunting is typically from late September to early December. The quality of the hunting grounds and the expertise of the staff are reflected in the fact that many renowned members of Ovis and Grand Slam clubs have chosen these locations as their new destination, offering the opportunity to combine a family seaside vacation with the pursuit of impressive mouflon specimens.
Make Your Croatia Mouflon Sheep Hunt a Combo
Besides the fallow deer, Dalmatian wild sheep and mouflon rams on the Island of Plavnik, there are several species to hunt on the mainland coast including; Eurasian Brown Bear; Balkan Chamois; red stag; roe buck; and wild boar. It is an easy boat ride from the island, so a combo hunt is very doable.

This was a challenging free range hunt and not a canned fence hunt. Very exciting.
