TRIP TAKEN: Montana Mule Deer/Whitetail Hunt

My wife and I were wanting to hunt either muleys or whitetails in Montana or Wyoming, so as always, I called Kyle Hanson from Outdoors International to research our options. After booking, I reached out to the outfitter and was able to get a hunt set up with our preference points, plus some outfitter points that were made available when we booked.
As the hunt drew near, the outfitters son was great answering questions we had about everything from lodging to types of terrain to expect. He was also our guide, and we quickly became friends.
Lodging and food were good.
There is a great room for relaxing with a bar, pool table, TV and plenty of room. Plus some great mounts from hunts in Africa and local game. Meals are good and filling, be advised Ms. Esther runs a tight ship, and knows her way around a kitchen. You will not go hungry!
The outfitter has leased access to several real good large ranches around Alzada.
We saw a LOT of game, both mule deer, whitetails, and of course antelope. Rich is an excellent guide, knows his properties and looks for good representative bucks, and is excellent at putting good stalks together when it’s go time.
Be prepared to glass, have good optics.
Know your rifles capability and be prepared for long shots in wind if needed. Be comfortable with your different shooting positions. Many of the ranches are wheat farms that have been harvested, and whitetails love them. It makes for some exciting stalks out in the open. There are river bottoms on some ranches that can get you in close as well.
I really liked the end of November hunt, it’s during the rut and an absolute ball!
The down side is expect bucks with broken tines, my 9 point whitetail had only 3 points that weren’t busted. But he was a tank and had a hot doe he was with. The stalk was an absolutely exciting hunt. One of the best times I’ve had in awhile chasing game.
Be prepared for cold weather if you come in November, snow is a possibility as well as near zero temps. You’ll spend time in vehicles scouting, then set up stalks as needed.

Kyle has been my go to for years, I just let him know what we’re looking to hunt and he has information in less than 48 and often 24 hours of my inquiry, that is if I’m lucky to catch him in cell service and not fulfilling his own hunts!

The hunting lodge was out of this world!, Rooms, food and the scenery were all A+. Our guide was exceptional and had us on Shiras moose all five days. We saw over 30 total with at least 10 bulls. They had a plan for everything including taxidermy and game processing.
