There are two primary seasons for Wyoming black bear hunting: spring and fall. Each has its own unique pros and cons.
Spring Season:
Spring black bear hunting is the most popular choice for our Wyoming hunters. During this time, bears emerge from hibernation, and their activity levels spike as they search for food. This makes them more predictable and easier to locate. The spring season typically starts in April and runs through June. The melting snow and fresh greenery provide excellent visibility and a chance to track bears near feeding areas.
Fall Season:
Fall hunting, on the other hand, offers a different kind of experience, and a black bear is typically a secondary species on a Wyoming elk or mule deer hunt.
WYOMING HAS SOME GREAT BLACK BEAR HUNTING
On a Wyoming black bear hunt with one of our outfitters, you’ll get a true Western hunting experience!
This Wyoming black bear hunt is one of our best. It’s a spring hunt over bait in some of the most pristine, game rich bear country available anywhere. Our hunters have high success, and this hunt has become an annual tradition for many of them.
You’ll be hunting from the same wall tent camp that the outfitter uses for his fall elk and mule deer hunts. It’s in a remote area with excellent bear density, and lots of color phases. You’ll ride horses to your bait and your guide will pick you back up with the horses after your sit. All hunts are based on a “Sunday-Saturday” schedule, with five full days of hunting.
If you’re not having fun in in this Wyoming black bear hunting camp, you’re doing it wrong!
This is a pretty laid back, enjoyable hunt, so get ready to relax and escape from the real world for a week. The average day starts with a big home cooked hearty breakfast prepared by your camp chef while guides are tending to baits and trail cameras. After lunch, the hunters and guides will head out on horseback to go sit the baits for the evenings. Occasionally, a bear will be on a different pattern, so you’ll sit all day or in the mornings. However, more often than not the biggest and most mature bears are taken in the evenings.

Daniel Simonson –
We rode horse back into the bear baits daily. In total, 50-60 miles ridden for the week. Sat over baits in the evenings, absolutely beautiful country! My guide had tons of knowledge, an incredible area, and lots of success.
