Roan Hunts

The Roan antelope (Hippotragus equinus) is a majestic and formidable creature that inhabits the savannas and woodlands of Africa. Its distinct reddish-brown coat, contrasting black and white facial markings, and impressive lyre-shaped horns make it an awe-inspiring sight to behold. Roan antelopes are known for their remarkable size, standing as the second-largest antelope species on the continent.

Habitat and Distribution

Roan antelopes primarily inhabit the sub-Saharan regions of Africa, including countries such as South Africa, Namibia, Zimbabwe, Botswana, and Zambia. These magnificent animals can adapt to various environments, from open grasslands to woodland areas with scattered trees. Their ability to thrive in diverse habitats makes them a sought-after game species for hunters worldwide.

Roan Hunting Safari: The Ultimate Experience

Embarking on a Roan hunting safari is an unparalleled experience for passionate hunters and wildlife enthusiasts. The thrill of tracking and encountering these majestic creatures in their natural habitat creates memories that last a lifetime. The African wilderness provides an enchanting backdrop, where the sights, sounds, and smells of the untamed savanna immerse you in a world of adventure.

The Roan antelope is known for its agility, speed, and heightened senses, making it a formidable opponent in the wild. Roan antelopes possess acute senses, including exceptional hearing and sharp eyesight. Exercise patience and move with caution, minimizing noise and avoiding sudden movements. Stealth and the ability to blend into the surroundings are critical for closing the distance between you and your quarry.

Shot Placement

When the opportune moment arrives for a shot, it is crucial to prioritize shot placement and adhere to ethical hunting practices. Aim for vital areas such as the heart and lungs to ensure a clean and humane kill. Responsible hunters always strive to minimize suffering and respect the wildlife they pursue.

Conservation and Sustainable Hunting

Roan hunting, like any form of hunting, should be approached with a strong commitment to conservation and sustainability. It is vital to follow local regulations and engage in responsible hunting practices that contribute to the preservation of wildlife populations and their habitats. By supporting sustainable hunting initiatives, we can help maintain the delicate balance between human activities and the natural environment.

I didn't think an experience like this was possible.

This trip, was, for me at least not just a trip, for me it was a real adventure, a real experience. I love the wilderness and this trip afforded me the opportunity to connect with the Alaskan wilderness in ways very few people do. It was an experience I will never forgot in a place I can’t wait to get back to.

The outfitter handled everything perfectly.

We were thankful that Outdoors International hooked us up with a great outfitter because they were able to find us an acceptable alternate on short notice. Overall the two year process to get this float in was seamless and worry free. Just like it should be.

Thank you, Stan Masneri
