Southern Patagonia Fly Fishing Report by Loyd Wilson

Chile is an amazing place, with their citizens being equally amazing and incredibly friendly.

The scenery varied from day to day based on the different areas I got the opportunity to fish—with days fishing in river canyons, Lagunas/Lagos, and spring creeks.

The guides at were all professional and knowledgeable, while always being ready to help if needed. Eduardo was always willing to help out with getting me to an area that I wanted to fish if it was possible. I definitely enjoyed discussing with Eduardo some of the areas where big fish typically reside.

The chefs, Cristian and Fernando, respectively were both great chefs—and always incredibly friendly to hang out with. Additionally, all of the other kitchen staff were helpful and friendly, and were able to effectively communicate with me (my Español skills are severely lacking).

I enjoyed: companionship of new like minded friends that I met on the trip, sharing lots of laughs over delicious food and drinks, fishing in beautiful locales, guides that were fun, knowledgeable, and great to be around, as well as having great potential on most everyday to catch a 20” + fish.

I got the opportunity to fish with Andy, Guillermo, Hayden, Jose, Monte and Nowa—which all had the own unique styles. I was able to learn from each of them and loved the passion they share for fishing. As a fellow fly fishing addict, it’s always refreshing having guides that have a serious passion for what they do; especially when your guide is as pumped up as you are when you catch a monster fish.

I have memories from this trip from sharing incredible laughs, horseback rides to get into remote areas, personal best catch for rainbow trout, trout eats that straighten a hook, trout eats that crush a mouse fly (able to be seen coming from 10 feet away), and celebrating great times and big fish on the water with some cold Escudos.

Chile was a blast and my fishing withdrawals are starting to set in.

I’m thankful Patrick extended the offer for me to join him on this trip. This is definitely a trip with many unforgettable memories, full of great people, fishing and companionship—all things I’m grateful for.

It was an amazing steelhead fishing trip! I brought my dad along with me and we slayed the fish. If you guys aren't applying for the OI Draws, you should. They're legit!
