The Kansas outdoors are loaded with hunting opportunities with 300,000 acres of public lands and more than 1 million acres of private land that is open to hunters during the hunting seasons. In addition, Kansas has approximately one-half million acres of Professionally Managed Hunting Facilities providing private, fee-to-hunt access.

Whether you’re a bird hunter or like to hunt big game, Kansas offers some of the best hunting in the United States.

Whitetail Deer

It is no secret that Kansas produces some of the Midwest’s best Boone & Crockett qualifying whitetailsKansas deer hunting is by draw only, but if you book two years in advance and get a preference point, you’re typically guaranteed to draw.

Mule Deer

Mule deer are common in western Kansas, but permits are very limited.

Pronghorn Antelope

By the late 1800s, pronghorn in Kansas were found only on the western border of the state due to unregulated hunting. In 1964 a pronghorn reintroduction program began in Barber, Comanche, Ellsworth, Saline, Gove, Chase, and Morton counties. The western Kansas reintroductions were successful in most of those areas, and limited hunting seasons have been established.

Wild Turkeys

Kansas also has tons of wild turkeys, with great populations of both Eastern and Rio Grande turkeys. Unpressured birds and the beautiful landscape make  Kansas turkey hunting one of the most exciting turkey hunts out there. Kansas should be on your list if you’re looking for a Rio for your slam.

Upland Bird Hunting

Kansas is a well known upland bird hunting destination, and is recognized as one of the Top 3 states for pheasant and bobwhite quail hunting. Bird hunting seasons run from mid-November through the end of the year. The great thing about bird hunting in Kansas is you don’t know if it’s going to be a pheasant or a covey of quail that is going to rise next.

Waterfowl

Waterowl hunting in Kansas is incredible! This great state sits right in the middle of the Central Flyway and has some of the largest marshlands in the country.
