HUNT: British Columbia Black Bear Hunt

We had a wonderful BC black bear hunt beginning with the guide picking us up at the Powell River airport. We made a short trip to the dock and took the boat to the base camp about 45 minutes across the inlets. The first day was very eventful with sighting two black bears and stalking both. The first was a good bear but “not large enough for the first day“.
As we began to leave Johnny spotted a very large bear on the beach about a mile away.
After two stalks we were within 31 yards and I took my shot. Although not perfect the hit was good enough allow us to get another arrow in to the bear. It was 7:30 in the evening and we skinned and loaded the bear in the boat and back to camp late that evening. The cook had a great meal waiting for us and the entire camp wanted to hear the story. The rest of the week was spent sightseeing British Columbia, fishing, crabbing and picking up oysters for dinner.
The outfitter has a well run bear hunting camp and exceptional guides.
His equipment is in good working order and fit for the area we hunted. Our guide let us know the days activity each morning and we knew what time to be ready and what equipment we would need. I am very impressed with this outfit and would love to hunt with them again, maybe for Roosevelt elk.

- Outdoors International is a professional business and did a great job finding a good outfitter/guide group for my hunt and my wife’s enjoyment. They were cognizant of my price range and what we wanted to do.
- My consultant was very knowledgeable, and a pleasure to talk to.
- My outfitter’s communication before, during and after the trip was good. If Brad has one shortcoming it is his communication. I was concerned prior to our hunt due to a lack of details I was able to get from him concerning equipment, boot and terrain. However, now that I look back I see he did give me enough information, just without elaboration.
- My guide was amazing.
- Physically, the trip was moderate.
- The food and accommodations were good.

The hunting lodge was out of this world!, Rooms, food and the scenery were all A+. Our guide was exceptional and had us on Shiras moose all five days. We saw over 30 total with at least 10 bulls. They had a plan for everything including taxidermy and game processing.
