Upland Bird Hunting
Kansas offers a diverse range of birds for hunters to pursue. Kansas is a well known waterfowl and upland bird hunting destination, and is recognized as one of the Top 3 states for pheasant and bobwhite quail hunting. Bird hunting seasons run from mid-November through the end of the year.
The great thing about bird hunting in Kansas is you don’t know if it’s going to be a pheasant or a covey of quail that is going to rise next. You’ll have better success if you can hunt with a good bird dog. Focus on CRP/Walk-In areas, 12-20 gauge shotguns with #6-7.5 shot.
Some of the most popular game birds in Kansas include:
- Pheasants: By far the most sought-after bird for upland hunters in Kansas. Pheasant hunting season runs from November to January.
- Quail: The state has two species of quail, including the northern bobwhite and scaled quail. Quail hunting season runs from November to January.
- Doves: These migratory birds that can be hunted during the early fall season. There are three species of doves to hunt in Kansas – Mourning doves, white-winged doves, and Eurasian collared doves.
Waterfowl
Waterfowl hunting in Kansas is incredible! This great state sits right in the middle of the Central Flyway and has some of the largest marshlands in the country, home to various species of ducks, including mallards, pintails, and teal. Waterfowl hunting season runs from October to January.
Turkey Hunts
Rio Grande turkeys thrive in the Flint Hills and eastern woodlands—known for vocal gobblers and high harvest rates in spring (April-May). Fall archery/firearm options add flexibility. Guided turkey hunting setups focus on blinds, calling, and private land to beat crowds.
Big Game Hunting
Whitetail Deer
Kansas produces Boone & Crockett-class whitetails thanks to ag fields, river bottoms, and limited pressure on private land. Rut hunts (November) deliver peak action—scrapes, rubs, cruising bucks. Guided deer hunting options include stands, spot-and-stalk, or food plots.

I didn't think an experience like this was possible.
This trip, was, for me at least not just a trip, for me it was a real adventure, a real experience. I love the wilderness and this trip afforded me the opportunity to connect with the Alaskan wilderness in ways very few people do. It was an experience I will never forgot in a place I can’t wait to get back to.
