Guided Buffalo Hunt in South Dakota

SPOILER ALERT……The experience was everything I had hoped for!

I had been searching for a bison hunt for several years. My main criteria was for a fair chase hunt. Most of what I found were high fence, canned hunts. I came across Outdoors International and decided to send them a message.

Nick Johnson got right back to me and as he gathered information on what I was looking for in a bison hunt. He very quickly recommended a great outfitter South Dakota. I had a phone conversation with owner and knew this was what I had been looking for. I booked for mid December, and my wife and I made the drive from Pennsylvania.

The accommodations were very clean and comfortable. The lodge was always open for beverages, snacks and time to relax and meet other hunters. The owner and his staff took care of everything to make our hunt a success. The area we hunted had been scouted the day before and we were hoping to catch a trophy bison out and within range.

After glassing a possible shooter at excess of two miles, we stalked about a mile and half across open prairie in high winds and frigid conditions to attempt to head him off in the timber. Once we got to a vantage point that I could set up, my guide helped me decide at what point was my best opportunity to take the shot. At 175 yards, I was able to drop the 2,000 pound bison with two fatal shots. It was an exciting experience I will never forget. After lots of pictures, the animal was loaded onto a trailer and taken for quartering.

Anyone looking for a great free range bison experience, this outfitter is the way to go. Going through Outdoors International made it so easy. They are professional and reliable. I would never hesitate to recommend or book with them again.
