Arizona Unit 22 is in the Mogollon Rim Country of North-central Arizona, and has some excellent hunting opportunities. This unit, as with many of the elk units in Arizona has good elk densities with good trophy quality. It also has some very remote wilderness areas that can provide serious elk hunters with some very high quality, low hunter pressure, trophy elk hunting. Especially during the late season rifle elk hunt in Arizona.
Hunting in Arizona Unit 22
Be prepared to hunt the wilderness. Horses and mules, pack goats or some heavy duty backpacking is a necessity for both getting yourself in and out of the country as well as packing your game out. Whether you are thinking of applying for an early rut archery bull tag, early rifle bull tag, late season archery bull tag, or late season rifle bull elk tag, keep this unit in mind.
- These Arizona Unit 22 elk hunts can be drawn without having a lot of bonus points. This unit is split up into Unit 22 North and Unit 22 South. The elk hunts in Unit 22 North have more elk tags than in Unit 22 South, but both have quality bulls with little or no hunt pressure.
- Unit 22 has some excellent Arizona black bear hunts for hunters who would like to harvest a trophy color phase black bear that will make the record book.
- This Unit has some best Coues deer hunts available. The archery Coues hunts can be combined to include black bear and wild turkey.
- Arizona Unit 22 is one of the best units for mountain lion hunting in Arizona. This unit usually produces some of the highest annual harvest numbers for mountain lions and is an excellent choice.
