Tajikistan Marco Polo Sheep Hunting
Tajikistan is arguably the best place to hunt Marco Polo sheep.
If you are looking for a 55″ plus Marco Polo hunt, look no further. Tajikistan is the ultimate trophy destination for giant Marco Polo rams. The average ram taken on this hunt will be in the mid-50s with a very real possibility to find a ram that will break the magical 60″ mark. This North America based outfitter spends 2-3 months every year on the ground in Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan evaluating hunt areas, trophy quality, guides, as well as doing some guiding himself. This can help you determine the difference between a 55″ ram and a 58-60″ ram. You will also have an interpreter with you. Ibex are also available on a trophy fee basis.
Hunts in Tajikistan are well regulated and as safe as mountain sheep hunting can be. This outfitter works directly with the same local outfit and guides year in and year out. They will make sure you have all the necessary licenses, tags and permits as required.
- Early Hunt: The early sheep hunt runs from September through October. *On early season hunts you will spike out to give you the best opportunity to get on trophy rams.
- Rut Hunt: The rut hunt runs Mid-November through Dec 25
- Late Hunt: The late hunts run January 1 – March 1. On the late hunts you will usually return to base camp each night as the temperatures get quite cold. Typically you will travel to and from camp by either vehicle or foot.
My trip to Hawaii was great! My guide was very knowledgeable about the area and the wildlife in it. During the hunt we encountered mouflon sheep, hogs, wild turkey and also some Vancouver bulls! After the hunt we walked back to the truck and Kalima took the time to drive around and show me the awesome scenery! This was my first hunt in Hawaii and also for Black Hawaiian ram! Was a great experience and I can’t wait to come back!
This was a challenging free range hunt and not a canned fence hunt. Very exciting. The next morning we headed out for Balkan chamois. We glassed for a few hours high on a mountain and spotted a shooter with several females. We made a very difficult stalk for several km and got into position for a 330 yd shot.
I did a vessel-based mountain goat hunt with Otto out of Valdez, Alaska. They did a very nice job with organization and have an excellent staff that is very knowledgeable and work very hard for you.
To be able to handle this archery mountain goat hunt, gun or bow, a person needs to be in excellent physical condition, because once a good goat is spotted, you will be starting out at sea level. The Chugach Mountain Range in Alaska, which I have hunted twice, is steeper and more rugged than anything I have experienced in Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, or Colorado. Mountain goat hunts may be the most difficult you can do but also may be the most rewarding.
Never have I had such a physically demanding hunt in such a magnificent place. I truly hope everyone may have the opportunity to taste mountain goat backstrap (sautéed in butter with a little Himalayan sea salt) in their lifetime. Delicious.
I hunted four days in some tough country for my mountain goat. Thank goodness I started preparing a full 60 days before the hunt. Probably should have started even sooner. Moose hunting was not very strenuous and we got my moose the first day we went out for him. Boone and Crockett 206 inches. Awesome experience shooting him at 20 yards after calling him in for 20 minutes.
People don’t know what they are missing out on. Just because Kyrgyzstan end in “stan” doesn’t mean you wont make it back alive. An unbelievable experience of a lifetime!
I couldn’t believe in less than seven days I had harvested a dall sheep and a grizzly bear, it was a trip of a life time! I cant say enough about how impressed I was with this Outfitter. From the knowledge of the outdoors to how my made my time in camp with him very memorable.
I’ve been on a lot of hunts over the past years, and can honestly say this was one of my best trips to date! Hunting mountain goats has been one of my lifelong goals. I never thought much of pursuing it. That was until Russ Meyer gave me a call. With animals in every direction, the hardest decision was figuring out which mountain goat we were going after. That is a true rarity these days. I can’t wait to go back to hunt with this outfit!
