Alberta is home to the Western Canadian moose. This moose subspecies can be found anywhere from the heavily forested willow swamps to the rolling grain fields. During the rut in late September through early October, the bulls search for cows can make for an exciting hunt! A 40 inch bull is a reasonable expectation, but 50+ inch bulls are a possibility on our Alberta moose hunting trips. The late November moose season allows for non resident hunting, and an Alberta moose hunt can make a great combo hunt for mule deer or whitetail. Big bulls can often be found in bachelor groups this time of year.
We book in four different areas for clients interested in Alberta moose hunting.
- A lodge-based hunt where you will leave each morning by boat, argo, or truck. This is a rut hunt meaning it works well to call the moose out of the brush and close the distance especially down to the water’s edge. Possibly our best value moose hunt.
- This moose hunt in Alberta is located in in a remote Northern boreal forest area which is isolated and very hard to access, thus making the trophy moose hunting amazing.
- Our trophy Alberta moose hunting trip in Northern portion of the province has potentially the best trophy potential and the opportunity to combo with a black bear.
- The other area is with a great outfitter in the Peace River Region which we refer to as our “Alberta farmland moose hunt.” The only problem with this hunt in the Peace River area is that he only offers three to four hunts per year, and is thus booked years in advance.
ALBERTA MOOSE HUNTING LODGE
Your Alberta moose hunt will be based from the Outfitters’ lodge where you will leave each morning by boat, argo, or truck.
This type of hunt is usually less physical. This is a rut hunt meaning it works well to call the moose out of the brush and close the distance especially down to the water’s edge.
- Hunts run from Mid September to mid October and are ten days. *Limited hunts in November are also available and can be combined with whitetail in the rut, please contact us for specific dates and availability.
- The outfitter pre-scouts prior to you showing up in camp.
- Hunters leave the lodge in the morning with a guide via truck or boat and hunt the lake, rivers or road system and cuts. Calling is the main form of hunting.
- This is not an overly physical hunt, short walks, flat ground for the most part. Returning to the lodge each night is a nice bonus compared to most moose hunt scenarios in western Canada.
- They have been 80+% successful on bulls in the 40″ plus range.
- You can combo your moose hunt with a black bear (or two) on a trophy fee basis.
REMOTE CABIN-BASED ALBERTA MOOSE HUNTING TRIP
If you’re interested in a trophy Alberta moose hunt, this is the one.
One of our best Alberta Canada moose hunts, you’ll hunt from a remote camp accessed via Argos, and/or snow machines if there is snow. This area is incredibly remote and hard to access, so bulls are growing to a mature age. There is virtually no hunting pressure other than our hunting clients. Early season rut hunts are concentrated near lakes and creeks with calling being the preferred method.
After you have taken your moose, a black bear can be added for a nominal fee, and having a wolf tag is encouraged. No fee for a wolf. There are also plenty of pike in the river.
- Hunting season is mid-September through November.
- Average bull size is 40 to 50 inches, with the possibility of better bulls.
- Archery hunters are welcome.
- Add a black bear to your hunt.
- Wolf and fishing licenses are included.
- Camps are modern with hot showers, cooks and camp helpers.
NORTHERN ALBERTA TROPHY MOOSE HUNT
This premier moose hunt takes place near the Wood Buffalo National Park border.
This vast, remote area is ideal for moose hunting, with Wood Buffalo National Park being the world’s second-largest national park, spanning over 44,000 square kilometers (11 million acres). The park’s isolation provides a sanctuary for diverse wildlife, including the largest free-roaming wood bison herd, numbering around 3,500, according to Parks Canada. Moose and wolf populations thrive in the territories south of the park, where these hunting camps are located.
Moose camp is 40 miles south of the park, nestled in a spruce forest clearing near a creek.
In the fall, we access the camp via a three-hour quad ride or a 45-minute helicopter trip from Fort McMurray International Airport. From camp, hunters can explore hundreds of miles of trails using ATVs.
The camp itself is designed as a spike camp, featuring a communal kitchen tent and individual sleeping tents, offering a rustic yet comfortable setting for an authentic Alberta moose hunting experience.
*These Northern Alberta moose hunts can be combined with a black bear and offer great opportunities to harvest a Timber Wolf.

A. Hunter –
This is the only place I’ve ever moose hunted where it’s possible to see trophy black bear, moose, whitetail, mule deer and elk all in the same field. Amazing!
Gary Whidden –
I spent a lot of time trying to find a good archery hunt for moose that wouldn’t break the bank but also be a challenge and I found just that with the help of Outdoors International and my consultant Patrick Kissel.
Andy Nagel –
It’s a great, family run operation, very beautiful country!
