TRIP TAKEN: Vessel-based, DIY Sitka Blacktail Deer Hunt in Alaska

Our blacktail hunt started off great from the start. We flew in and were picked up to shoot rifles then we took off and spent the rest of the evening in Cordova seeing the town. The transporter had us a place to stay in his shed with bunks which was also very nice. The next day we ate a big supper and took out on the boat to the hunting grounds. Once getting there we were able to look at the maps and tell him where we wanted to be dropped and hunt for the day. The island is full of game and with a little knowledge and luck you will have no problem finding a nice buck to bring home.
On top of the deer hunting, we got to experience some great Alaskan fishing and duck hunting as an added bonus to the trip. The food was also good and hearty meals. Being able to come home to a hot meal after hiking in the cold is always nice.
The boat accommodations were also a plus for us. Big enough for seven men to live comfortably. The mud room was a major part of this happening. Being able to store gear out of the elements and out of the way helped keep things neat.
