The Angling Frontiers team has spent years exploring and fishing all over remote areas of Bolivia. They are tough, adventure hungry, up-for-anything group of guys who want to share their world with you. The jungle paradise of Bolivia that they will share with you will show what the world looked like thousands of years ago. Massive schools of Sabalo baitfish travel up to the headwaters to spawn, where large species of predatory fish are waiting…. specifically, the Golden Dorado.
The Golden Dorado
The Golden Dorado, or Salminus maxillosus is a large, bright golden predatory fish with powerful streamlined bodies. Their massive jaws have rows of razor sharp teeth. They can reach 40 inches in length and weigh up to 45lbs. They are a force to be reckoned with for even the most experienced angler, attacking flies with tremendous power and ferocity! The aggression they display as they fight is awe-inspiring. Once you witness this, you will understand why the Golden Dorado are considered guardians of the river according to the indigenous Tsimane folklore.

We were recently part of an expedition to explore the amazing Bolivian jungle chasing large Golden Dorado and would like to send special thanks to Patrick and the hardworking local guides for providing an exciting but comfortable journey into their paradise. The trip exceeded our expectations and where able to catch large Dorado in a beautiful surrounding jungle environment, we are eagerly looking forward to heading back on our next adventure back to Bolivia.
Whatever expectations one might have before making the trip to the Parana River Delta for a week aboard the Parana Gypsy, the reality is even better. It truly is that good as a fishing destination. Superb accommodation, great food and wine, a wonderful team of helpful, experienced people… …and the fishing, well, it is just terrific, simply superb. Feisty Golden Dorado slashing at streamers and poppers… …airborne for a good part of the battle… …a magnificent fly fishing experience. Plenty of other species too. I will be back; that’s for certain. It’s one of the very best trips I’ve undertaken in 50 years of fly fishing.
