HUNT: Wyoming Elk Hunt

October 14-20, 2021
Our base camp for the hunt was a beautiful lodge with great staff and terrific food. This was a 5 day hunt for bull elk at 7,500 to 9,000 ft. A hunter can harvest a cow if he/she chooses. Beautiful country. Lots of hiking, climbing to glass and call for bulls. Guides are excellent at this.
I had some fun but frustrating stalks on days 1-3. We just couldn’t quite “nail” it. You can hunt till dark. I found my guide was willing to do whatever I wanted.
On day 4 at 8:30 am we had a successful stalk on a “large” 5 point/small 6 point bull at 8,700 ft. What a thrill. My guide did a great job of advising me on the shot, and calling in the bull.
I am a older hunter so I had to pace myself a bit. My guide was extremely patient and helpful. After the 3rd day my acclimation to the altitude was noticeable. I’m in my 70″s and in reasonably good condition. Older hunters can enjoy this hunting experience and be successful. Mornings in Oct are cold, but mid day was 40’s low 50’s. Can be colder I think so bring gear for everything. Saw lots of Shiras moose, which was great!

We saw bucks every day along with all other sorts of wildlife. Mountain goats, bears, and foxes were common sights. Fishing and crabbing was special bonus. The food was excellent, the crew was amazing. Outdoors International did a great job of finding exactly what we were looking for.

The hunting lodge was out of this world!, Rooms, food and the scenery were all A+. Our guide was exceptional and had us on Shiras moose all five days. We saw over 30 total with at least 10 bulls. They had a plan for everything including taxidermy and game processing.
