GET MORE INFO ABOUT THIS HUNT

If you want a free range bull, Alberta bison hunting is one of the few places to do it. Wild bison have always existed here, and they were never wiped out completely by the market hunters of the 1800’s.

Alberta’s bison population includes both Plains and Wood bison, with the latter being one of the largest terrestrial mammals in North America. The Wood bison, in particular, is a significant draw for hunters due to its size, with bulls often weighing over 2,500 pounds and presenting a significant challenge due to their remote habitat.

Alberta Bison Hunting is a Free Range, Fair Chase Experience

When you’re bison hunting in Alberta, you’ll be hunting wild, native bulls that are still in their traditional habitat.

  • Hay-Zama Wood Bison Hunt: One of the most renowned hunts in Alberta, this occurs in the Hay-Zama Lakes Wildland Park. It requires a special license, often through a draw system, ensuring sustainable management of the herd. This hunt is not only tough due to the harsh winter conditions where you’ll most likely need to travel extensively by snowmobile.
  • Private Outfitters: These hunts focus on free-range bison in remote areas, providing an authentic hunting experience. They often offer packages that include snowmobile travel, lodging, and sometimes the option to hunt other species like wolves.

My hunt was absolutely top notch.

The outfitter is a fantastic man and incredibly hard working and knowledgeable, there is no doubt he will do everything within his power to make peoples hunts successful and enjoyable. I plan to do it again with him next year for sure.

Our hunt was excellent.

We saw bucks every day along with all other sorts of wildlife. Mountain goats, bears, and foxes were common sights. Fishing and crabbing was special bonus. The food was excellent, the crew was amazing. Outdoors International did a great job of finding exactly what we were looking for.

What an amazing experience!

The hunting lodge was out of this world!, Rooms, food and the scenery were all A+. Our guide was exceptional and had us on Shiras moose all five days. We saw over 30 total with at least 10 bulls. They had a plan for everything including taxidermy and game processing.
