A great roosterfish

Resting 50 nautical miles south of Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo, the remote fishing village of Puerto Vicente is a hidden Mexico sailfish paradise. Tucked away from the crowds and traffic of Mexico’s booming tourist destinations. This remote section of the Costa Grande is Ranked #2 in the World for Sailfishing by Sport Fishing Magazine.

Despite all this great angling, you’ll probably be the only boat on the water when you fish with us. Due to the distance, the big chartered fishing vessels from Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo don’t fish here on a regular basis. And without the crowds, you’ll have a much more relaxed Mexico sailfish vacation.

Productive Pelagic fishing is found only one mile off the shore from the lodge.
Offshore species found in these waters include: Pacific sailfish; Black marlin; dorado; Yellowfin tuna; and wahoo.
Inshore species found in these waters include: jacks; Spanish mackerel; roosterfish; and snook.

The rooms are comfy and the air conditioning is cold but it’s not 5 star lodging. There isn’t hot water coming out of the showers but in the Mexico heat that’s not what you’re really wanting anyway. It’s perfect for us because we aren’t fancy.

Lodging and Accommodations

The fishing lodge rests along a half-moon-shaped beach, and provides an authentic, old-world Mexico experience.

The lodge is a handmade adobe building with seven rooms, each with their own bathroom and air conditioning. Cool off with a soak in the small outdoor pool and then unwind under a thatched-roof palapa while sipping a frosty beer. These little perks are nice. But what you’ll remember the most (aside from the fishing, of course) will be the fantastic Mexican food and friendly service.

Fresh snacks and drinks are always within reach at the lodge. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are also included during your stay. Savor authentic Mexican fare and a wide range of seafood dishes, including fresh-caught tuna sashimi, prepared by a talented chef. And if you have any special requests, just ask. Some understanding of Spanish is not required but will help communication quite a bit while you’re there; this rural Mexico and hasn’t really had much exposure to the tourist destinations so most people in the village have had little reason to speak anything but Spanish their whole lives.

The Fish	Productive fishing is found only one mile off the shore from the lodge. This is because the Sierra Madre Mountains that run along Costa Grande extend into the ocean and then immediately drop off, creating deep waters that provide the perfect habitat for migratory trophy fish. Offshore trips are ideal adrenaline-seeking anglers. You’ll target massive pelagic fish including Marlin, Tuna, Sailfish, Mahi Mahi, Wahoo, and Barracuda. Inshore trips are great for beginners or guests who are more prone to seasickness. You’ll stay a little nearer to the lodge and be fishing right outside the break of the surf off the pristine beaches that stretch out from the village. You won’t be targeting the billfish on these days but the species you’ll encounter will be equally impressive and aggressive like Roosterfish, Sierra, Spanish Mackerel, and Skipjack Tuna. Some of these inshore species are fish which can be made into ceviche by the ladies at the lodge if you ask them. Your captains can help identify the fish you’re catching as you’ll often see a variety caught in a single day.
