Trip Taken: New Mexico Elk Hunt

We both took nice bulls on Day 1
They were small bulls but definitely helped to fill the freezer. The New Mexico ranch we hunted on was small (about 2,500 acres) and probably doesn’t hold many big bulls given the open terrain.
Our guide found the elk within 30 minutes of starting our hike.
The terrain was definitely do-able for folks who are not in tip top shape. Note for the next time we go elk hunting — train better for high altitude hiking. It felt like we were breathing through very small straws.

We saw bucks every day along with all other sorts of wildlife. Mountain goats, bears, and foxes were common sights. Fishing and crabbing was special bonus. The food was excellent, the crew was amazing. Outdoors International did a great job of finding exactly what we were looking for.

The hunting lodge was out of this world!, Rooms, food and the scenery were all A+. Our guide was exceptional and had us on Shiras moose all five days. We saw over 30 total with at least 10 bulls. They had a plan for everything including taxidermy and game processing.
