Kasilof River King Salmon Fishing

Most anglers focus on the Kenai River during the July King salmon run, so the Kasilof River late run has passed under the radar for years. Don’t tell anybody, but fishing on the Kasilof River is a secret that many locals would like to keep to themselves. There are also some good Spring and Fall opportunities for steelhead.

Kasilof River

Located only 15 miles from the famous Kenai River, the Kasilof River is somewhat of an afterthought. If it were located anywhere else, it would be known as a fantastic King salmon fishery.

The Kasilof River has two distinct runs of king salmon, in addition to a healthy sockeye run, and a exceptional run of silver salmon. It also supports resident rainbow trout and dolly varden. Something it has over on the Kenai is a substantial return of steelhead in the spring and fall.
