Oregon’s thick forests, rugged mountains, and vast wilderness provide the perfect backdrop for a great trip. Oregon blacktail hunting is world-class if you’re looking for great hunting, and a good chance at a mature buck. With expansive public lands and prime habitats, it’s one of your best choices.
These deer are as sneaky as they come. They love to stay hidden in the thickest cover, and they’re most active around dawn and dusk. Be prepared to sit in a stand, or a methodical spot-and-stalk style hunt.
Licenses, Tags, and Hunting Season
Blacktail season typically runs from late August to November. Dates change yearly, so check with the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife for current regulations. Oregon requires hunters to have a valid hunting license and blacktail deer tags. Get them early, as they can sell out quickly.
