Mexico Gould’s Turkey Hunting Trips

Sonora, Mexico is one of the only places on earth to hunt a Gould’s — the largest of the wild turkey subspecies, and the bird that stands between most hunters and a Royal or World Slam. Three days of fully guided hunting off a Sonoran ranch, picked up in Tucson.

Book Your Trip Get More Info

The Gould’s is the largest of the wild turkey subspecies, and the hardest one to add to a slam — not because the birds are especially difficult, but because there is almost nowhere to hunt them. Their range runs through the Sierra Madre and the high desert grassland of northern Mexico, which is why a Sonora hunt is how most hunters finish a Royal Slam or a World Slam.

The hunt

Three full days of hunting, with a travel day on each end. You are picked up in Tucson, Arizona and driven down to the ranch, or you can bring your own truck. The hunt is fully guided, on the ranches our outfitter holds in Sonora.

What a day looks like

An early breakfast, then out for the day. Lunch is taken in the field. You come back to the ranch house after dark to a full, traditional Mexican dinner.

Lodging

Rustic ranch house accommodation with beds, a bathroom and a hot shower. Which ranch you hunt determines which house you stay in — some are nicer than others, and all of them have beds and hot water. The meals are authentic Mexican with fresh-made tortillas, and the hospitality is the part hunters talk about afterwards.

What’s included

  • Transportation to and from the ranch, originating in Tucson
  • Lodging and meals
  • Non-alcoholic beverages (you are welcome to bring your own)
  • Mexican hunting license, tags and gun permits
  • Field preparation of meat and trophies
  • Trophy importation paperwork for bringing your bird back into the US
  • Use of the outfitter’s firearm, by prior arrangement

What’s not included

  • Travel to and from Tucson, Arizona
  • Hotels before or after your hunt
  • Sleeping bag, bath towel and personal items
  • Firearms and ammunition, unless arranged with the outfitter in advance
  • Alcohol — and note the outfitter runs a strict safety policy: heavy drinking the night before means you do not hunt the next day
  • Meat processing and taxidermy
  • Trip insurance

We're looking forward to helping you book a great trip with an amazing outfitter.

I didn't think an experience like this was possible.

This trip, was, for me at least not just a trip, for me it was a real adventure, a real experience. I love the wilderness and this trip afforded me the opportunity to connect with the Alaskan wilderness in ways very few people do. It was an experience I will never forgot in a place I can’t wait to get back to.

The outfitter handled everything perfectly.

We were thankful that Outdoors International hooked us up with a great outfitter because they were able to find us an acceptable alternate on short notice. Overall the two year process to get this float in was seamless and worry free. Just like it should be.

Thank you,
Stan Masneri

What an amazing experience!

The lodge was out of this world! Our rooms, the delicious food, the incredible wildlife and the scenery were amazing. Our photo safari guide was truly exceptional and had us on animals almost constantly. We saw over 30 different species and had some incredible up close experiences. Africa is amazing!
