Arizona Mountain Lion Hunting Trips

What Makes an Arizona Mountain Lion Hunt Unique?

Hunting mountain lions in Arizona requires strategy, determination, and physical stamina. Here’s what makes the experience stand out:

  • Diverse Terrain: Arizona’s topography ranges from the Sonoran Desert to the Coconino Plateau, giving hunters a chance to track lions in rocky canyons, pine forests, and high desert landscapes.
  • Weather Conditions: Unlike northern states, Arizona’s mild winters provide excellent hunting conditions without extreme cold. Snow in higher elevations makes it easier to track fresh lion tracks, but hound hunting here is often on dry ground.
  • Elusive Prey: Mountain lions are expert hunters themselves, known for their stealth and ability to avoid detection. This makes tracking and harvesting one a deeply rewarding challenge for experienced big game hunters.

Arizona’s vast desert landscapes, rugged canyons, and forested mountains create the ideal habitat for mountain lions, offering hunters one of the most exhilarating big game hunting experiences in North America. For those seeking the thrill of the chase and the challenge of pursuing one of nature’s most elusive predators, Arizona mountain lion hunting is an adventure unlike anywhere else, because in most of the state, you won’t be hunting in the snow.

Why Arizona is a Top Destination for Mountain Lion Hunting

Arizona’s diverse geography—ranging from desert lowlands to high-altitude pine forests—provides the perfect environment for mountain lions to thrive. The state’s healthy lion population ensures ample opportunity for hunters to spot and pursue these stealthy predators. The hunt itself is a true test of patience, endurance, and skill, with tracking often requiring navigation through rough, remote terrain, often on horses and mules.

Hunters are drawn to Arizona’s unique blend of breathtaking scenery and rugged challenge. The pursuit of a mountain lion in this environment is physically demanding, but the experience is unforgettable. Following the tracks of a big tom and hearing the distant baying of hounds as they close in on the lion is enough to make any hunter’s heart race.

My hunt was absolutely top notch.

The outfitter is a fantastic man and incredibly hard working and knowledgeable, there is no doubt he will do everything within his power to make peoples hunts successful and enjoyable. I plan to do it again with him next year for sure.

Our hunt was excellent.

We saw bucks every day along with all other sorts of wildlife. Mountain goats, bears, and foxes were common sights. Fishing and crabbing was special bonus. The food was excellent, the crew was amazing. Outdoors International did a great job of finding exactly what we were looking for.

What an amazing experience!

The hunting lodge was out of this world!, Rooms, food and the scenery were all A+. Our guide was exceptional and had us on Shiras moose all five days. We saw over 30 total with at least 10 bulls. They had a plan for everything including taxidermy and game processing.
