One Day Success in Hawaii

I had a great, successful one day turkey hunt on the big island of Hawaii. I was taken to a huge chunk of private land where the turkeys were plentiful. The altitude was a lot higher than I am use to so this hunt was definitely a work out! I enjoyed it a lot!

Target North America's Wild Turkey Subspecies

We connect hunters with specialized outfitters for all recognized subspecies:

• Eastern Wild Turkey (Meleagris gallopavo silvestris): The most widespread subspecies, found throughout the eastern half of the U.S. and parts of Canada. Known for their wariness and strong gobbles.
• Rio Grande Wild Turkey (Meleagris gallopavo intermedia): Primarily inhabits the prairie and brush country of Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, and has been introduced to other western states.
• Merriam's Wild Turkey (Meleagris gallopavo merriami): Typically found in the mountainous regions of the western U.S., known for their distinct white-tipped tail feathers and often nomadic behavior.
• Osceola Wild Turkey (Meleagris gallopavo osceola): Found only on the Florida peninsula, this subspecies is a key component of the Grand Slam and known for being particularly challenging.
• Gould's Wild Turkey (Meleagris gallopavo mexicana): The largest subspecies, primarily found in the mountainous regions of northern Mexico, with limited populations and highly coveted draw tags in Arizona and New Mexico.
• Ocellated Wild Turkey (Meleagris ocellata): Native to Mexico's Yucatan Peninsula, this is a distinct species, offering another unique tropical turkey hunting experience that can also be arranged.

The Wild Turkey Hunting Experience:

• Spring Gobbler Seasons: The most popular time to hunt, focusing on calling in responsive, breeding-age toms.
• Fall Seasons: Offered in many states, allowing for either-sex hunts or targeting birds of the year.
• Hunting Methods: Utilizing various calling techniques (box calls, slate calls, diaphragm calls), decoys (hens, jakes, strutters), hunting from ground blinds or utilizing natural cover, and sometimes spot-and-stalk tactics in more open country.
