Antelopes are a diverse group of typically hollow-horned, slender-built, and swift bovids native to Africa and Asia. The antelope of the world are generally characterized by a light, elegant figure, graceful limbs, small cloven hoofs, a short tail, and large and unbranched horns, which may be spiral-shaped. Antelope species do not form a taxonomic group but are spread throughout the subfamilies of the Bovidae family (bovids); many are more closely related to buffalo and wild cattle of the world or goats than to each other.

Other Asian Antelope

  • Goitered Gazelle or Persian Gazelle: Found in parts of Iran, Afghanistan, and Central Asia, this gazelle is known for its ‘goiter’ – an inflatable throat patch used for communication. They are adapted to arid zones but also found in steppes.
  • Mongolian Gazelle
  • Mountain Gazelle
  • Przewalski’s Gazelle
  • Saudi Gazelle
  • Tibetan Antelope: A rare and protected species, the Tibetan Antelope (Chiru) lives in the high plateaus of Tibet. It’s famous for its fine underfur, shahtoosh, which has unfortunately led to poaching. They are larger than the Tibetan gazelle and have a more restricted habitat.
  • Tibetan Gazelle: Also known as the goa, this species is a true gazelle found in the Tibetan Plateau. They are smaller, with a distinctive white patch on their tail, and live in high-altitude environments.
  • Chousingha: Also known as four-horned antelope (Tetracerus quadricornis) is subject to strict regulations in India, where they are primarily found, along with a smaller population in Nepal.
  • Saiga: The saiga antelope has been through dramatic population fluctuations, particularly due to hunting for its horns (used in traditional Chinese medicine), meat, and habitat loss. It was once listed as “Critically Endangered” by the IUCN but has since been reclassified to “Near Threatened” due to conservation successes, especially in Kazakhstan.
  • Takin: The takin, a large, unique mammal revered in Bhutan as the national animal, is under strict protection across its range due to its “Vulnerable” status. Hunting is prohibited, focusing instead on conservation to preserve this culturally significant species.
  • Queen of Sheba’s Gazelle

Our hunt was excellent.

We saw bucks every day along with all other sorts of wildlife. Mountain goats, bears, and foxes were common sights. Fishing and crabbing was special bonus. The food was excellent, the crew was amazing. Outdoors International did a great job of finding exactly what we were looking for.

What an amazing experience!

The hunting lodge was out of this world!, Rooms, food and the scenery were all A+. Our guide was exceptional and had us on Shiras moose all five days. We saw over 30 total with at least 10 bulls. They had a plan for everything including taxidermy and game processing.
