Water Buffalo Hunting Guides and Outfitters
The water buffalo (Bubalus bubalis), or Asian buffalo, is the largest member of Bovini, which includes yak, bison, African buffalo, and others. Water buffalo originated in the Indian subcontinent, Southeast Asia, and China. Now they are also found in Europe, Australia, North America, South America and some African countries.
Two types of water buffalo are recognized: the river and the swamp type. Both are well adapted to living in wetlands, and can thrive in harsher environments and on less nutritious herbs than domestic cattle.
Don’t be fooled by the “feral” status of this species…Water buffalo hunting is dangerous game hunting.
A water buffalo is larger than a Cape buffalo and just as cantankerous. You’ll need to bring a reliable big-bore rifle, of at least .338 or caliber, a cool head, and a steady hand. Since they are a feral species, water buffalo can be hunted year round, but there are certain times that are best. In Australia, you should hunt during the dry season, which is June through September. In South America, the best time depends on how your hunt is structured, and what species you are wanting to combo with your buffalo.
Where to Hunt Water Buffalo
Wild water buffalo are still found in parts of South-East Asia, but cannot be legally hunted. All modern water buffalo hunting is for feral populations of domesticated water buffalo. Large feral populations exist in Argentina, Uruguay, and a few game farms in South Africa. However, by far the most popular water buffalo hunting destination is in Australia.

Our hunt was excellent.
We saw bucks every day along with all other sorts of wildlife. Mountain goats, bears, and foxes were common sights. Fishing and crabbing was special bonus. The food was excellent, the crew was amazing. Outdoors International did a great job of finding exactly what we were looking for.

What an amazing experience!
The hunting lodge was out of this world!, Rooms, food and the scenery were all A+. Our guide was exceptional and had us on Shiras moose all five days. We saw over 30 total with at least 10 bulls. They had a plan for everything including taxidermy and game processing.
