Conquer the Caucasus: Guided Tur Hunting Expeditions with Outdoors International

Embark on one of the world's most challenging and rewarding mountain hunting adventures – the pursuit of the majestic Caucasian Tur. Outdoors International is your expert consulting service, dedicated to connecting discerning hunters with elite, vetted outfitters specializing in ethical and successful Tur hunting expeditions in the rugged Caucasus Mountains of Azerbaijan and specific regions of Russia. These hunts are a true test of a mountain hunter's skill, endurance, and spirit, offering the chance to harvest a magnificent and unique trophy in a breathtakingly wild setting. We help you navigate the complexities of this specialized international hunt at no extra cost compared to booking direct.

The Caucasian Tur, a wild goat noted for its impressive, scimitar-shaped or lyre-shaped horns (depending on the subspecies), inhabits precipitous, high-altitude terrain. Hunts are physically demanding, primarily involving spot-and-stalk tactics, often with initial access to hunting areas via horseback or 4x4 vehicles, followed by strenuous on-foot ascents and stalks. Our consultants have a deep understanding of the different Tur subspecies, the prime hunting regions, the best seasons (typically late spring/summer through fall), and the most reputable local operators who prioritize safety, ethical hunting, and a high-quality wilderness experience.

  • Prized Caucasian Tur Species: We connect hunters with specialized outfitters for the primary Tur subspecies:

    • Dagestan (Eastern) Tur (Capra cylindricornis): Recognized by its impressive, lyre-shaped, heavily ridged horns that sweep outwards and then often inwards at the tips. Primarily hunted in Azerbaijan and parts of Dagestan (Russia).
    • Kuban (Western) Tur (Capra caucasica): Typically features more scimitar-shaped horns that are generally more massive and less flared than the Dagestan Tur. Found in the western Caucasus regions of Russia.
    • Mid-Caucasian (Severtsov's) Tur (Capra caucasica severtzovi): Considered by some to be a hybrid or distinct subspecies found where the Eastern and Western Tur ranges meet, with horn characteristics that can vary. Hunted in specific areas of Russia.
  • Premier Tur Hunting Destinations: Our network includes experienced outfitters in the core Tur hunting regions:

    • Azerbaijan: A prime destination for Dagestan (Eastern) Tur, known for its stunning mountain landscapes and quality hunting opportunities.
    • Russia (Caucasus Regions): Specific regions in the Russian Caucasus offer hunts for Kuban (Western) Tur, Mid-Caucasian Tur, and in some areas, Dagestan Tur.
    • (Note: Hunting in these remote mountain regions involves significant logistical planning, including permits and often travel to high-altitude base camps.)
  • The Tur Hunting Experience:

    • Extreme Mountain Terrain: Be prepared for physically demanding hunts at altitudes often ranging from 8,000 to 13,000+ feet, involving steep ascents, navigating rocky slopes, and glassing for extended periods.
    • Spot and Stalk: The primary hunting method, requiring patience, excellent optics, and the ability to make ethical shots at potentially long ranges in variable mountain conditions.
    • Remote Wilderness Camps: Accommodations typically range from spike camps (tents) to more established base camps (cabins or yurts), providing an immersive wilderness experience.
    • Expert Local Guides: Hunts are led by experienced local mountain guides and stalkers who possess intimate knowledge of the terrain, Tur behavior, and safety protocols.
  • Logistics & Regulations: International Tur hunting involves specific firearm import procedures, hunting licenses, CITES permits for trophy export/import (as applicable), and thorough pre-trip preparation, all of which Outdoors International and its partners will assist you with.

I didn't think an experience like this was possible.

This trip, was, for me at least not just a trip, for me it was a real adventure, a real experience. I love the wilderness and this trip afforded me the opportunity to connect with the Alaskan wilderness in ways very few people do. It was an experience I will never forgot in a place I can’t wait to get back to.

The outfitter handled everything perfectly.

We were thankful that Outdoors International hooked us up with a great outfitter because they were able to find us an acceptable alternate on short notice. Overall the two year process to get this float in was seamless and worry free. Just like it should be.

Thank you, Stan Masneri
