We were all able to make it happen and connect on our first Alaska moose. I actually passed on a couple bulls a little bigger than mine but I wouldn’t have traded that for the extra time in the field and the encounters that we had.

We arrived with good weather, and the outfitter did great with four groups of hunters in a rush to get out into the field a day early with good flying weather.
The outfitter’s staff was excellent. Seth and I kind of roughed it so we didn’t need a lot of their services beyond flying us in, but the pilot was great and provided us with valuable tips before dropping us off for the unguided moose hunt.
We averaged seeing 14 moose per day with an average of 10 of them being bulls! The rut appeared to just be kicking off as we saw mainly saw small bachelor groups of bulls.
Our self guided fly-in moose hunt started a day late because of bad weather but it only took 6 days for all three of us to fill up on big bulls. Having the right gear and hunting companions is a necessity on a trip like this.
This Alaska moose hunt was everything we wanted and more. It challenged us physically when packing out meat, and it was a complete wilderness experience. we saw black bears, a wolf from the plane and were able to harvest and eat a few tasty grouse. The moose tenderloins cooked over an open fire were delicious and 3 guys can eat two nights on one moose tenderloin, they are massive animals. One of the best wilderness hunts I have ever been on!!
The moose hunt was everything I expected. We hunted the marsh flats and saw moose everyday of our hunt. Calling was key. Trusting your moose call is something I can’t stress enough. The most demanding aspect of this drop hunt for me was patience!

Our moose hunt was very well organized, and my son and I had a great time. We were lucky enough to see tons of moose, and luckier to have been able to harvest two great bulls and share the memories together.
I went through Outdoors International which set me up with and unguided Alaska moose hunt. OI and the outfitter were both very organized and helpful. We saw a ton of moose, and were able to both tag out on great bulls.
