Adventure Travel: Georgia offers diverse adventures across its varied terrain. The North Georgia mountains provide hiking (including the Appalachian Trail's southern terminus), rock climbing, whitewater rafting/kayaking on rivers like the Chattooga and Ocoee, and waterfall viewing (Amicalola Falls, Tallulah Gorge). Central Georgia features the unique urban whitewater course on the Chattahoochee River in Columbus. The coast offers sea kayaking, paddleboarding, and wildlife watching on the barrier islands like Cumberland Island. The Okefenokee Swamp provides unparalleled canoeing and wildlife viewing (alligators, birds). State parks throughout Georgia offer camping, hiking, and lake activities. Ziplining, ATV riding, and caving are also available in various locations.
Wingshooting: Georgia is renowned for its traditional Bobwhite quail hunting, especially in South Georgia plantations, often featuring pointing dogs and mule-drawn wagons. Dove hunting is popular statewide, particularly around agricultural areas. Wild turkey hunting in the spring is another major draw. Waterfowl hunting for ducks occurs seasonally, and opportunities exist for hunting migratory Woodcock in bottomland thickets. Many private preserves offer quail, pheasant, and chukar hunting experiences.
Fishing: Georgia boasts exceptional freshwater and saltwater fishing. North Georgia's mountain streams are prime trout waters (Rainbow, Brown, Brook), popular for fly fishing. Large reservoirs like Lanier, Allatoona, Seminole, Hartwell, and Okeeffenokee are famous for Largemouth and Spotted Bass, Crappie, and Catfish. Rivers like the Chattahoochee (including the tailwater below Lake Lanier for trout), Flint, and Altamaha offer diverse species. Coastal Georgia provides excellent inshore fishing for Redfish, Spotted Seatrout, and Flounder in marshes and sounds, while offshore anglers target Snapper, Grouper, Kingfish, and Cobia around artificial reefs and natural bottom structures. A fishing license and, for saltwater, a free SIP permit are generally required.
Big Game Hunting: Whitetail deer is the most widely hunted big game species, with generous seasons across archery, primitive weapons, and firearms categories. Georgia also offers regulated Black Bear hunting in specific mountain and swamp regions. The state is a top destination for Wild Turkey hunting, particularly the Eastern subspecies. Abundant Wild Hogs can often be hunted year-round on private land and during various seasons on public Wildlife Management Areas (WMAs). Alligator hunting is available through a limited quota permit system. A hunting license and specific big game permits/licenses are required. Hunter education is mandatory for most hunters born after 1960.

I didn't think an experience like this was possible.
This trip, was, for me at least not just a trip, for me it was a real adventure, a real experience. I love the wilderness and this trip afforded me the opportunity to connect with the Alaskan wilderness in ways very few people do. It was an experience I will never forgot in a place I can’t wait to get back to.Oliver Fischer
