New Mexico Unit 6A

Overview

New Mexico Unit 6A is a premier destination for hunters seeking an unforgettable experience in the heart of the Land of Enchantment. Nestled within the scenic landscapes of the Gila National Forest, this unit boasts a diverse ecosystem characterized by a mix of pine forests, open meadows, and rugged canyons. The varied terrain creates a rich habitat for elk, mule deer, and other game species, making Unit 6A an attractive choice for both novice and seasoned hunters.

Elk Hunting in Unit 6A

Unit 6A is renowned for its thriving elk population, particularly during the rut season. Hunters can expect to encounter a mix of trophy bulls and cow elk throughout the area. The dense forest cover and numerous water sources provide an ideal environment for elk, allowing for effective calling strategies and spot-and-stalk techniques. The unit's elevation ranges from 6,500 to 10,000 feet, which means hunters must be prepared for varying weather conditions and physical challenges, but the reward of encountering a majestic bull elk is well worth the effort.

Mule Deer Hunting Opportunities

In addition to elk, Unit 6A offers excellent opportunities for mule deer hunting. The combination of thick vegetation and open terrain provides a favorable environment for these elusive creatures. Hunters can find success by focusing on the transition areas between dense cover and open meadows, particularly during the early morning and late evening hours when deer are most active.

Scouting and Planning

Effective scouting is essential for success in New Mexico Unit 6A. Utilizing tools such as Google Earth, topographic maps, and local knowledge will help hunters identify key locations, including watering holes, feeding areas, and travel corridors. Pre-season scouting trips are highly recommended to familiarize yourself with the terrain and animal movements.

Conclusion

In summary, New Mexico Unit 6A offers a unique hunting experience filled with diverse wildlife and breathtaking landscapes. With its robust populations of elk and mule deer, this unit provides ample opportunities for a rewarding hunting adventure. Proper preparation, effective scouting, and an understanding of the area's geography will enhance your chances of success in this exceptional hunting destination.

Our hunt was excellent.

We saw bucks every day along with all other sorts of wildlife. Mountain goats, bears, and foxes were common sights. Fishing and crabbing was special bonus. The food was excellent, the crew was amazing. Outdoors International did a great job of finding exactly what we were looking for.

What an amazing experience!

The hunting lodge was out of this world!, Rooms, food and the scenery were all A+. Our guide was exceptional and had us on Shiras moose all five days. We saw over 30 total with at least 10 bulls. They had a plan for everything including taxidermy and game processing.
