Adventure Travel: Italy's diverse geography provides abundant adventure opportunities. The Alps and Dolomites offer world-class hiking, trekking (like Alta Via 1), via ferrata climbing, rock climbing, skiing, and mountaineering. The Apennines also feature extensive hiking trails. Coastal regions like the Amalfi Coast, Cinque Terre, Sardinia, and Sicily provide stunning hiking, sea kayaking, sailing, and diving. Picturesque regions like Tuscany and Umbria are popular for cycling (road and e-bike) and walking tours through vineyards and historic towns. Lake regions (Como, Garda) offer various water sports. Unique adventures include hiking active volcanoes like Etna and Stromboli, canyoning, paragliding, and exploring extensive cave systems.

Wingshooting (Caccia): Italy has deep-rooted wingshooting traditions, governed by regional regulations and specific hunting calendars. Popular methods include driven hunts ('battute') for pheasant and partridge, often on private estates; walked-up hunting ('caccia vagante') with dogs for pheasant, woodcock, and partridge; and stationary blind hunting ('caccia da appostamento') for migratory birds like waterfowl, wood pigeons, and thrushes (subject to specific regulations). Obtaining an Italian hunting license involves exams and often membership in hunting associations, with specific requirements for non-residents.

Fishing (Pesca): Italy offers extensive freshwater and saltwater fishing. In the north, alpine rivers and lakes provide excellent opportunities for trout (brown, marble, rainbow), Arctic char, and grayling, particularly popular with fly fishers. Larger lakes like Garda and Como, and major rivers like the Po, hold pike, perch, zander, black bass, and carp. The long Mediterranean coastline allows for sea angling, targeting species like sea bass, sea bream, dentex, amberjack, mahi-mahi, and larger pelagics like Bluefin tuna and swordfish via boat charters (trolling, deep sea, bottom fishing) or shore fishing. Freshwater fishing requires a government license (Type B), often supplemented by local permits or association memberships (e.g., FIPSAS) for specific waters. Recreational sea fishing typically requires a free online registration.

Big Game Hunting (Caccia al Cinghiale / Caccia di Selezione): Big game hunting is a popular and regulated activity. Wild Boar (cinghiale) hunting is widespread, traditionally done in driven hunts ('braccata') with dogs and teams, or individually by stalking or waiting from high seats. Selective hunting ('caccia di selezione'), involving stalking or waiting, targets specific animals based on management plans and permits, including Roe Deer, Red Deer, Fallow Deer, Chamois (Alpine and Apennine subspecies), and Mouflon, particularly in the Apennines and Alpine regions. Hunting is strictly regulated by region with specific seasons (mostly autumn/winter), quotas, permits, and firearm/caliber restrictions. An Italian hunting license is required. Guided hunts are common and often necessary for accessing specific areas or species, especially for non-residents.

I didn't think an experience like this was possible.

This trip, was, for me at least not just a trip, for me it was a real adventure, a real experience. I love the wilderness and this trip afforded me the opportunity to connect with the Alaskan wilderness in ways very few people do. It was an experience I will never forgot in a place I can’t wait to get back to.

The outfitter handled everything perfectly.

We were thankful that Outdoors International hooked us up with a great outfitter because they were able to find us an acceptable alternate on short notice. Overall the two year process to get this float in was seamless and worry free. Just like it should be.

Thank you,

Our photo safari guide was truly exceptional and had us on animals almost constantly. We saw over 30 different species and had some incredible up close experiences. Africa is amazing!
