These are for hunters who don’t want a guide standing next to them. The outfitter handles
what’s genuinely hard to arrange on your own — the bush flight, the camp, the access, the
meat coming out — and the hunting is yours.
A drop camp puts you and your gear in good country and comes back on an agreed date. A
semi-guided hunt gives you a guide for part of it, or one guide across several hunters. Both
cost meaningfully less than a fully guided trip, and both ask more of you.
Be realistic about what that means: you are field-judging, killing, quartering and packing
without help, sometimes days from anyone. These suit experienced hunters in good condition
who have done it before. If this is your first trip of this kind, we’ll usually steer you to
a guided hunt first — and tell you why.
Unguided and Semi-Guided Trips and DIY Drop Camps
Here are some opportunities to access quality hunting and fishing trips without the added costs associated with an outfitter or guide service. Keep in mind however, that both semi-guided and unguided hunting and fishing trips are for experienced sportsmen and women only.
Unguided Fishing Trips
We have great DIY, unguided and semi-guided fishing trips all over the world. If you don't see what you're looking for here, let us know anyway because we might be able to figure something out for you.
Unguided Hunting Trips
A word of warning about unguided hunts and drop camps: We realize that fully guided hunts can be very expensive, but still feel that they should be seriously considered. Not only will your trophy quality (probably) go up, but so should your chances for success. An unguided hunt saves you money, but it’s physically difficult and success rates are lower. I know it’s tempting, but not many hunters are prepared to go unguided, especially for moose in Alaska.
Our Alaska drop camps for moose and caribou are extremely popular as are drop camps for elk and mule deer, in the lower 48. Book a few years in advance if you are seriously considering one of these trips.
I didn't think an experience like this was possible.
This trip, was, for me at least not just a trip, for me it was a real adventure, a real experience. I love the wilderness and this trip afforded me the opportunity to connect with the Alaskan wilderness in ways very few people do. It was an experience I will never forgot in a place I can’t wait to get back to.

The outfitter handled everything perfectly.
We were thankful that Outdoors International hooked us up with a great outfitter because they were able to find us an acceptable alternate on short notice. Overall the two year process to get this float in was seamless and worry free. Just like it should be.
Thank you,
Stan Masneri
What an amazing experience!
The lodge was out of this world! Our rooms, the delicious food, the incredible wildlife and the scenery were amazing. Our photo safari guide was truly exceptional and had us on animals almost constantly. We saw over 30 different species and had some incredible up close experiences. Africa is amazing!
