Awesome Axis Hunt

My axis deer hunt in Hawaii was awesome! It’s definitely something that can be done on a family vacation if you have a couple extra days. We hunted in the morning, and evenings there was time mid day to go get lunch, hit the pool, or even the beach. The guides were great. They made the rest of the stay better with local knowledge of things to do.

Adventure Travel

Hawaii is a world-renowned adventure destination offering diverse activities across its volcanic islands. Popular pursuits include surfing, snorkeling, scuba diving in vibrant coral reefs, kayaking along dramatic coastlines (like Kauai's Na Pali), hiking through rainforests and volcanic landscapes (like Volcanoes National Park), zip-lining over lush valleys, helicopter tours for breathtaking views, ATV excursions on rugged terrain, and unique experiences like mountain tubing down historic irrigation systems (Kauai). Whale watching is a major attraction during the winter months.

Saltwater fishing

Fishing

Hawaii offers exceptional saltwater fishing opportunities. Deep-sea sportfishing, particularly off the Kona coast of the Big Island, is famous for large Pacific Blue Marlin, Yellowfin Tuna (Ahi), Mahi-Mahi, and Ono (Wahoo). Reef and bottom fishing yield various snappers, groupers, and jacks (Ulua). Inshore flats and shorelines provide chances for bonefish (O'io), trevally, and barracuda using light tackle or fly fishing. Shore fishing and spearfishing are also common. Generally, a state license is not required for recreational saltwater fishing but is required for freshwater fishing, which is limited to introduced species like bass and tilapia in reservoirs and streams.

Big Game Hunting Paradise

Big game hunting in Hawaii primarily targets introduced species managed for population control and recreation. Main animals hunted include Feral Pigs, Feral Goats, Axis Deer (abundant on Maui, Molokai, Lanai), Mouflon Sheep (Hawaii Island, Lanai), and Blacktail Deer (Kauai). Hunting takes place on state-managed public hunting areas (often requiring permits/tags obtained via lottery) and through guided hunts on private ranches. A Hawaii hunting license, Wildlife Conservation Stamp, and hunter education certification are generally required, along with specific permits or tags depending on the species and location. Regulations vary by island and hunting unit.

Pheasant Hunting

Wingshooting

Bird hunting in Hawaii focuses on various introduced game bird species found in upland habitats. Hunters pursue pheasant (Ringneck, Blue), francolin (Black, Gray, Erckel's), chukar, quail (California, Gambel's, Japanese), wild turkey, and several dove species. Hunting occurs during specific seasons (typically fall/winter) in designated public hunting units and on private lands/ranches. A Hawaii hunting license and game bird stamp are required.

I didn't think an experience like this was possible.

This trip, was, for me at least not just a trip, for me it was a real adventure, a real experience. I love the wilderness and this trip afforded me the opportunity to connect with the Alaskan wilderness in ways very few people do. It was an experience I will never forgot in a place I can’t wait to get back to.

The outfitter handled everything perfectly.

We were thankful that Outdoors International hooked us up with a great outfitter because they were able to find us an acceptable alternate on short notice. Overall the two year process to get this float in was seamless and worry free. Just like it should be.

Thank you,

What an amazing experience!

The lodge was out of this world! Our rooms, the delicious food, the incredible wildlife and the scenery were amazing. Our photo safari guide was truly exceptional and had us on animals almost constantly. We saw over 30 different species and had some incredible up close experiences. Africa is amazing!
