Adventure Travel: Greenland offers unparalleled Arctic adventures centered around its dramatic ice landscapes. Popular activities include boat tours among massive icebergs (especially near Ilulissat Icefjord), glacier hiking and ice cave exploration, kayaking in fjords alongside whales and seals, dog sledding in winter, hiking across tundra and coastal mountains, and viewing the Northern Lights. Multi-activity tours often combine several of these experiences, sometimes involving stays in remote camps or settlements.

Wingshooting: Wingshooting opportunities primarily focus on sea ducks along the coast, particularly King Eiders and Common Eiders, often hunted during late winter/early spring for prime plumage. Unlike many places, shooting from a moving boat is legal. Ptarmigan may also be hunted inland. Hunting is regulated, and bag limits apply (e.g., a combined limit for eiders).

Fishing: Greenland provides unique Arctic fishing experiences. The most sought-after species is the Arctic Char, which migrates into rivers and streams in large numbers during the summer, making it a prime target for fly fishing and spin fishing. Coastal and fjord fishing yields Atlantic Cod and Greenland Halibut (often targeted in deeper waters). Ice fishing for char is a popular winter activity. A fishing license is required and can usually be obtained locally or online.

Big Game Hunting: Regulated big game hunting focuses mainly on Muskox and Caribou (Reindeer), primarily in West Greenland near Kangerlussuaq. These hunts often involve helicopter or ATV transport to remote camps and stalking across tundra landscapes. Licenses and permits are mandatory and typically arranged through licensed outfitters. Polar Bear hunting is highly restricted by quotas, primarily reserved for indigenous subsistence hunters, and subject to international agreements (like CITES) and specific regulations. Seal hunting is also a traditional activity. Bowhunting is permitted for muskox and caribou but with specific equipment requirements (compound bows only, minimum draw weights/arrow weights).

TRIP REPORTS  |  BOOK A TRIP

I didn't think an experience like this was possible.

This trip, was, for me at least not just a trip, for me it was a real adventure, a real experience. I love the wilderness and this trip afforded me the opportunity to connect with the Alaskan wilderness in ways very few people do. It was an experience I will never forgot in a place I can’t wait to get back to.

The outfitter handled everything perfectly.

We were thankful that Outdoors International hooked us up with a great outfitter because they were able to find us an acceptable alternate on short notice. Overall the two year process to get this float in was seamless and worry free. Just like it should be.

Thank you,
Stan Masneri

The lodge was out of this world! Our rooms, the delicious food, the incredible wildlife and the scenery were amazing. Our photo safari guide was truly exceptional and had us on animals almost constantly. We saw over 30 different species and had some incredible up close experiences. Africa is amazing!
