Finland offers a wide array of outdoor experiences blending adventure travel with traditional pursuits like wingshooting, fishing, and big game hunting, all set against its vast forests, numerous lakes, and Arctic landscapes.

Adventure Travel: Finland is a year-round adventure destination. Winter in Lapland is a major draw, offering activities like husky sledding, reindeer safaris, snowmobiling, skiing, snowshoeing, ice fishing, and chasing the Northern Lights. Summer shifts focus to the extensive Lakeland region and the coast, ideal for hiking in national parks (like Oulanka, Hossa, and Pallas-Yllästunturi), kayaking, canoeing, sailing, and wildlife spotting (including chances to see bears and reindeer). Cultural elements include exploring cities like Helsinki and Turku, visiting Rovaniemi (home of Santa Claus), and learning about the indigenous Sámi culture in the north.

Wingshooting: Finland provides opportunities for hunting forest birds, primarily Capercaillie, Black Grouse, Hazel Grouse, and Willow Grouse (Ptarmigan). Hunting typically involves walking or skiing through forests and bogs, often assisted by dogs, to flush birds. Hunting grouse perched in trees with rifles is also practiced. The main season runs from September into early November, particularly in regions like Lapland.

Fishing: Known as the "Land of a Thousand Lakes" and with an extensive Baltic Sea coastline, Finland is a premier fishing destination. Pike, perch, and zander are abundant in lakes and coastal waters. Rivers like the Tornionjoki and Tenojoki, along with northern lakes such as Inarijärvi, are famed for Atlantic salmon, trout, and grayling. Other common catches include whitefish, arctic char, and burbot. Fishing methods range from spinning and trolling to fly fishing and simple angling. Ice fishing is a popular winter activity. While basic angling and ice fishing are often covered by "Everyman's Rights," fishing with lures requires a national fisheries management fee, and specific permits may be needed for certain rivers or rapids.

Big Game Hunting: Finland allows hunting for several big game species. The European Moose (Elk) is a prime target, often hunted with dogs or from stands, particularly in eastern and northern Finland. The country also boasts a significant population of introduced Whitetail Deer, especially in the southwest, making it a unique European destination for this species. Raccoon Dog, an invasive species, can be hunted year-round. Other potential game includes Wild Boar and, under strict regulation, Brown Bear and Wild Forest Reindeer. Hunting requires appropriate licenses, permits for specific areas and species, and adherence to defined seasons (typically autumn/winter for moose and deer).

I didn't think an experience like this was possible.

This trip, was, for me at least not just a trip, for me it was a real adventure, a real experience. I love the wilderness and this trip afforded me the opportunity to connect with the Alaskan wilderness in ways very few people do. It was an experience I will never forgot in a place I can’t wait to get back to.

The outfitter handled everything perfectly.

We were thankful that Outdoors International hooked us up with a great outfitter because they were able to find us an acceptable alternate on short notice. Overall the two year process to get this float in was seamless and worry free. Just like it should be.

Thank you, Stan Masneri

What an amazing experience!

The lodge was out of this world! Our rooms, the delicious food, the incredible wildlife and the scenery were amazing. Our photo safari guide was truly exceptional and had us on animals almost constantly. We saw over 30 different species and had some incredible up close experiences. Africa is amazing!
