Burchell's Zebra Hunting

Burchell's zebra (Equus quagga burchellii) is a subspecies of the plains zebra, native to southern and eastern Africa. They are named after the British explorer and naturalist William John Burchell, who first described them in the early 19th century. Burchell's zebras are medium-sized herbivores, with distinctive black and white stripes that help them blend in with their surroundings and confuse predators.

Best Places to Hunt Burchell's Zebra

Burchell's zebra can be found in a wide range of habitats, from savannas and grasslands to woodlands and mountains. Some of the best places to hunt them include:

  • South Africa: particularly the Eastern Cape and Limpopo provinces, which offer a mix of open plains and rugged terrain.
  • Namibia: known for its vast wilderness areas and high zebra populations.
  • Zimbabwe: with its diverse landscapes and abundant game.

Hunting Methods

There are several hunting methods that can be used to hunt Burchell's zebra, depending on the terrain and the hunter's preferences and skills. These include:

  • Spot-and-stalk: the hunter spots the zebra from a distance, then approaches it carefully and takes a shot when in range.
  • Safari-style: the hunter drives around in a vehicle, searching for zebras and then pursuing them on foot or from the vehicle.
  • Bowhunting: using a bow and arrow to take down the zebra, which requires skill and patience.

I didn't think an experience like this was possible.

This trip, was, for me at least not just a trip, for me it was a real adventure, a real experience. I love the wilderness and this trip afforded me the opportunity to connect with the Alaskan wilderness in ways very few people do. It was an experience I will never forgot in a place I can’t wait to get back to.

We were thankful that Outdoors International hooked us up with a great outfitter because they were able to find us an acceptable alternate on short notice. Overall the two year process to get this float in was seamless and worry free. Just like it should be.
