With its stunning landscapes and vast public lands, hunting in Idaho is perfect for those looking to immerse themselves in the beauty of nature while pursuing trophy game or simply enjoying the outdoor experience.

The Hog Deer (Axis porcinus) is a relatively small, stocky deer native to grasslands and marshy riverine areas of South and Southeast Asia (primarily northern India, Nepal, Bangladesh, Myanmar, Thailand, with remnant populations elsewhere). Introduced populations also exist in Australia, Sri Lanka, and parts of the US (mainly Texas and Florida).

Its name comes from its distinctive pig-like behavior when fleeing danger – running with its head held low and crashing through undergrowth rather than leaping over obstacles. Hog deer typically stand 60-75 cm (24-30 inches) at the shoulder and weigh 35-50 kg (77-110 lbs). They have a yellowish-brown to reddish-brown coat, sometimes faintly spotted in summer, and short legs, with the hind legs longer than the front. Males possess small, usually three-tined antlers that are shed annually.

Generally solitary or found in pairs, hog deer are most active at dawn, dusk, and night, grazing primarily on grasses, leaves, and fruits. They are good swimmers and often take to water when threatened.

The Hog Deer is listed as Endangered on the IUCN Red List. Its populations have declined dramatically across its native range due to significant habitat loss (conversion of grasslands and wetlands to agriculture) and hunting pressure.

If you're looking to hunt Hog Deer, your main options are private game ranches in Texas or regulated seasonal hunting in Australia.

I didn't think an experience like this was possible.

This trip, was, for me at least not just a trip, for me it was a real adventure, a real experience. I love the wilderness and this trip afforded me the opportunity to connect with the Alaskan wilderness in ways very few people do. It was an experience I will never forgot in a place I can’t wait to get back to.

The outfitter handled everything perfectly.

We were thankful that Outdoors International hooked us up with a great outfitter because they were able to find us an acceptable alternate on short notice. Overall the two year process to get this float in was seamless and worry free. Just like it should be.

Thank you, Stan Masneri

The lodge was out of this world! Our rooms, the delicious food, the incredible wildlife and the scenery were amazing. Our photo safari guide was truly exceptional and had us on animals almost constantly. We saw over 30 different species and had some incredible up close experiences. Africa is amazing!
