Adventure Travel: Iceland is a prime destination for nature-based adventure, dominated by its unique volcanic and glacial landscapes. Popular activities include exploring glaciers (hiking, ice caving, snowmobiling), visiting powerful waterfalls (like Gullfoss and Skógafoss), witnessing geysers (Strokkur), bathing in geothermal hot springs (Blue Lagoon, Secret Lagoon), and hiking diverse trails (from coastal paths to the highland Laugavegur Trek). Other key adventures include whale watching, puffin tours (seasonal), Northern Lights viewing (winter), kayaking among icebergs (Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon), snorkeling/diving the Silfra fissure between tectonic plates, horseback riding on Icelandic horses, and super jeep tours into the interior.

Fishing: Iceland offers world-class freshwater fishing, particularly for salmonids, and sea angling opportunities. It's renowned for Atlantic Salmon fishing in pristine rivers (permits often expensive and booked far in advance). Brown Trout, Arctic Char, and Sea Trout are abundant in numerous rivers and lakes (like Thingvallavatn and Myvatn), with fly fishing being a very popular method. The affordable "Fishing Card" grants access to many lakes for trout and char fishing. Sea angling targets species like Cod, Halibut, Haddock, and Pollock along the coast. A fishing license is required for freshwater angling, and gear disinfection upon arrival is mandatory.

Hunting: Hunting opportunities in Iceland are regulated and more limited than fishing or adventure travel. The primary big game species hunted is Reindeer (introduced), occurring only in East Iceland and managed through a strict permit/quota system.

Wingshooting: For wingshooting, Rock Ptarmigan is the most popular game bird, hunted during a specific autumn/winter season, typically only on weekends. Geese and some duck species are also hunted. Seabird hunting (auks, guillemots) has traditional roots but is regulated. A valid Icelandic hunting card and relevant permits/licenses are required for all hunting; foreign hunters must provide proof of home country licenses to obtain temporary Icelandic permits, usually via an outfitter.

I didn't think an experience like this was possible.

This trip, was, for me at least not just a trip, for me it was a real adventure, a real experience. I love the wilderness and this trip afforded me the opportunity to connect with the Alaskan wilderness in ways very few people do. It was an experience I will never forgot in a place I can’t wait to get back to.

The outfitter handled everything perfectly.

We were thankful that Outdoors International hooked us up with a great outfitter because they were able to find us an acceptable alternate on short notice. Overall the two year process to get this float in was seamless and worry free. Just like it should be.

Thank you,

What an amazing experience!

The lodge was out of this world! Our rooms, the delicious food, the incredible wildlife and the scenery were amazing. Our photo safari guide was truly exceptional and had us on animals almost constantly. We saw over 30 different species and had some incredible up close experiences. Africa is amazing!
