Overview

New Mexico Unit 13 is a top destination for elk hunting, offering a mix of rugged canyons, high desert terrain, and forested areas. This unit features a diverse landscape with piñon-juniper woodlands, scattered ponderosa pines, and open grasslands, making it ideal for both spot-and-stalk and calling strategies. Unit 13 is known for producing trophy elk, especially during the rut, when bugling bulls are highly active and more visible.

Public lands in Unit 13 include parts of the Cibola National Forest, offering excellent opportunities for hunters to access prime elk habitats. Due to its challenging terrain, hunters need to be prepared for long days of hiking and scouting to maximize their chances. What an amazing experience!

The hunting lodge was out of this world!, Rooms, food and the scenery were all A+. Our guide was exceptional and had us on Shiras moose all five days. We saw over 30 total with at least 10 bulls. They had a plan for everything including taxidermy and game processing.
