Harlequin decoys in Prince William Sound

Prince William Sound

In addition to some of the most beautiful scenery in the World, Prince William Sound provides the wingshooter with bucket list birds feet down in the decoys!

Prince William Sound duck hunts originate out of Whittier, Alaska and offer all of the above species and more. In addition to the ducks listed above we see Cackler Geese, Bluebills (Greater Scaup), Widgeon, Mallards, and Buffleheads.

The hunt will start in Whittier, Alaska.

We will meet you at the public boat ramp in Whittier where we will depart for the hunting grounds before daylight. You will need to schedule your time to make the Whittier Train Tunnel Schedule which typically enters Whittier on the half hour (ie 7:30). We typically travel 10 – 50 miles to hunt out of Whittier.

You’ll be hunting from shore over decoys.

We will drop off the decoys and then the hunters and their dogs to begin the hunt while the Captain anchors the tender boat and deploys the small inflatable that is used for retrieval and transport to the tender. Most days one or two sets will keep the clients barrels warm, but if necessary we will relocate to find more birds or different species.

We will arrive back at the Whittier Harbor near sunset each day.

The surf scoter breeds on the coasts of the northern United States. The male is all black, except for white patches on the nape and forehead. It has a bulbous red, yellow and white beak.
Resurrection Bay in Alaska has some incredible Surf Scoter hunting.

Resurrection Bay

Resurrection Bay can provide great sea duck and puddle duck hunting.

We will typically set decoys from the tender boat and then shuttle hunters to shore in a small inflatable where they will shoot decoying birds. The scenery in Resurrection bay is some of the finest in South-Central Alaska!

Our Resurrection Bay hunts are day hunts based out of the public small boat Harbor in Seward, Alaska.

You will hunt Harlequin, Surf, White, and Common Scoters, Barrows and Common Goldeneye, Common and Red Breasted Merganser, Greater Scaup, and Mallards, Pintails, Teal, Gadwall, Shovelers and Buffleheads.

Mixed Bags are norm when you're hunting Sea Ducks on Kachemak Bay.
Mixed Bags are norm when you’re hunting Sea Ducks on Kachemak Bay.

Kachemak Bay (Homer, Alaska)

Kachemak bay is a wingshooters paradise and we will tailor your trip to fit you. Sea Ducks and Puddle ducks are hunted over decoys from shore.

Our Kachemak Bay hunts are multi-day trips for groups of 3-5 hunters. If scheduling allows we can try to mix and match hunt parties if a single hunter or a couple pair of hunters want to book a date. Kachemak bay hunts are Multi-day hunts based out of the Homer Harbor or Seldovia Harbor depending on your hunting groups desires.

You will hunt Harlequin, Old Squaws, Surf, White, and Common Scoters, Barrows and Common Goldeneye, Common and Red Breasted Merganser, Greater Scaup, and Mallards, Pintails, Teal, Gadwall, Shovelers and Buffleheads. We will meet you in Homer Alaska at either the Airport or small boat Harbor public ramp. From the public ramp we will either travel across Kachemak Bay to begin our hunt or we will travel 20 miles by boat to Seldovia to get you settled into your accommodations and then we will begin our hunt.

Seldovia also has a short 10 minute flight from Homer where you will need to coordinate with your hotel accommodations to get into town with your gear where we can meet you at the public small boat harbor. Seldovia has a small grocery store, restaurant, and bar, and US Postal Office all near the public boat launch. The large rafts of sea ducks in Kachemak bay provide for a great day of shooting and the scenery is spectacular!
