The Lone Star State is the undisputed King of dove hunting in the United States. Dove hunting in Texas can be spectacular. The daily bag limit for doves statewide is 15 and the possession limit 45. During the early two weekends for the Special White-Winged Dove Days in the South Zone, hunting is allowed only from noon to sunset and the daily bag limit is 15 birds, to include not more than two mourning doves and two white-tipped doves.

With the exception of dove hunting, Texas is often overlooked as a wingshooting destination. Upland bird hunts in Texas can be incredible with a variety of species. Texas upland birds include the American woodcock; the unique chachalaca, also known as the “Mexican Tree Pheasant”; White-winged and mourning doves; snipe; ringneck pheasant; and three species of quail – bobwhite, scaled quail and Gambel’s.
