Planning and preparation are key for a successful hunt.
Many hunters find it best to plan for at least 5 to ten days when hunting in Alaska. This is due to weather and animal movement patterns.
Huge moose and vast caribou herds dominate the landscape in some areas of Alaska. Large numbers of wolves, black bears, grizzly and brown bears are found throughout the state. The mountain ranges support populations of Dall sheep and mountain goats, and Sitka black-tailed deer. Muskox range over the western and arctic coastal wilderness. However, game densities are lower than most other states and provinces. This makes finding a good Outfitter key to successfully hunting in Alaska.
Talk with your hunting consultant to determine the best areas, Outfitter and times to hunt the species you seek. Purchase reliable equipment, and practice with it ahead of time. Be prepared physically and mentally for tough weather, difficult terrain conditions, isolation, and weather delays… these are all normal. Familiarize yourself with the Alaska hunting regulations and carry a copy with you into the field.

I just finished up my season in Alaska and wanted to reach out to everyone and give a report on my experiences guiding in Bristol Bay.
On May, 2018 on the Alaska Peninsula, Chris Cammack, broke Jack Brittingham’s record for the world record brown bear taken with a bow. After a lengthy stalk on a brushy mountain side in the wind & rain Chris was blessed to arrow this amazing brown bear at just 14 yards.
I personally don’t think there is a bad time to visit Alaska for fishing during the summer season especially if you choose a good fishing lodge/outfitter. The time you go is dependent on what type of fishing experience you’re looking for and what species you’re most after.
I heard a yell and looked down at Cooper a 16 year old from Colorado who could fish pretty well. He was persistent in fishing a streamer or mouse all day because he was hoping for a big rainbow to grab his fly. His jaw was dropped and eyes wide as he excitedly stuttered, “I’ve got a huge trout!”
Obviously, as an experienced hunter, you have a list of things you like to carry, but this is a list directly from an Alaskan outfitter and there may be a few things here that you hadn’t thought about.
This trip is for any skill level and offers great indicator fishing and spey fishing. Anglers can expect to catch Steelhead and that is unheard of in the world of Steelhead fishing!
More than 32,000 brown bears call Alaska home! Even though there are technically two subspecies in North America (the grizzly and the Kodiak), all brown bears in Alaska are genetically identical. The difference between Coastal and Grizzly Bears is geographical and diet.
