Merriam’s Wild Turkey Hunting Information
The Merriam’s wild turkey is found primarily in the ponderosa pine country of the western mountain regions of the United States. Within its suspected historic range in Arizona, New Mexico and Colorado, the Merriam’s was relatively isolated from the other subspecies of wild turkey. This subspecies has also been introduced into some Midwestern states such as Nebraska.
Hunt Reports and Articles
Hunting turkeys had become mostly a springtime activity across much of the U.S. in the 1970s after centuries of the sport were traditionally reserved for the fall. Spring is considered an “easy” time to hunt turkeys, presenting little challenge to the true sportsman.
