REMOTE, FLY-IN, BACKPACK, MOUNTAIN HUNTS

On our Alaska Dall sheep hunts you’ll almost always take a bush flight into the hunting area and hunt sheep out of a backpack with your guide for the entirety of the hunt.

Since Alaska Dall sheep hunts take place in August, you have a pretty good chance to enjoy some decent weather, considering it’s Alaska. Don’t think that good weather is a given or that it’s going to be easy though…by the time you’re done you will most likely be physically and mentally drained, possibly even questioning your sanity. But the memories you take home with you will be looked back on fondly for the rest of your life.

Packing Out a Dall Sheep

Alaska Dall sheep hunts are guided 1:1.

After you tag your animal and take field photos, it is caped, quartered and butchered for packing to spot suitable for aircraft pick-up.

Alaska Dall Sheep Hunts are usually extremely physical.

You can expect to go from 2,000 to 6,000 feet in elevation…maybe every day. You MUST have the ability to hike and carry a 35 pound pack, and if you are 20 pounds or more overweight; a heavy smoker; have bad legs, feet or knees – this is not your hunt. Alaska Dall sheep hunts are no joke, we can’t stress that enough, so be in shape!

You’ll be staying in a tent with your guide.

You will be flown into your hunting area and will backpack around the area from their. Your lodging may include a base camp and hiking from there each day. Be prepared for roughing it and eating Mountain House!

Bring your glassing game!

On a sheep hunt, you’ll rise early and typically glass from or near camp, eat a hot breakfast, and then hike to a high spot to glass all day, or until you find a good stalkable animal. Expect to do a lot of glassing. You’d think that a white animal would be easy to glass up, but you’d be wrong. You’ll spend hours and hours picking the mountains apart looking for your ram.

Don’t think that good weather is a given or that it’s going to be easy though…by the time you’re done you will most likely be physically and mentally drained, possibly even questioning your sanity. But the memories you take home with you will be looked back on fondly for the rest of your life.

My sheep hunt was a tough hunt physically. I expected to see more legal rams. I saw one on last morning of my hunt.

Our hunt was excellent.

We saw bucks every day along with all other sorts of wildlife. Mountain goats, bears, and foxes were common sights. Fishing and crabbing was special bonus. The food was excellent, the crew was amazing. Outdoors International did a great job of finding exactly what we were looking for.

Jesse Neveau

What an amazing experience!

The hunting lodge was out of this world!, Rooms, food and the scenery were all A+. Our guide was exceptional and had us on Shiras moose all five days. We saw over 30 total with at least 10 bulls. They had a plan for everything including taxidermy and game processing.
