Home to over half of North America’s current goat population, a British Columbia mountain goat hunt should be your go-to destination. Both the P&Y and B&C World Records were taken in BC. This outfitter keeps his hunts VERY exclusive, and caps his harvest at five billies per year. This ensures that this area produces quality book record trophies for our clients every year, and for the long term.

Trophy Billies are the Norm on this BC Hunt

The average trophy on this British Columbia mountain goat hunt measures 9 3/4 inches. For context, a ten inch billy is an absolute monster. Many of the billies in this area will live out their lives without ever seeing a human. This is because this outfitter never harvests more than five goats per season.

You’ll be Hunting Goats in the Cariboo Mountains

You’ll be hunting a huge area in the Cariboo Mountains with over 600 square miles of mountain peaks ranging from 5,000 to 7,000 feet. There is a healthy population of goats, with plenty of mature billies to choose from.

Arguably the best thing about this region of BC is there is little to no hunting pressure from locals and BC residents. The reason it doesn’t get hunted is because it’s super remote and difficult to access. This creates a secluded area which provides an exclusive hunting area.

This is a Backpack-Style Mountain Hunt

A British Columbia mountain goat hunt, or a goat hunt anywhere for that matter involves a lot of glassing and hiking. You and your guide will hike into the hunting territory and set up a lightweight tent camp. From there, you’ll spend a lot of time glassing the surrounding ranges until you find a trophy billy in a stalkable position. If you tag out early, which is entirely possible, you can continue hunting for a black bear for free.

The trip was challenging, beautiful, exciting and pretty much everything I’d thought/hoped a mountain goat hunt would be. Hope my son can try it in a couple of years.
